Filipino singer-songwriter/producer raven expresses affection towards his special someone in the new single “Sinta,” out today via Sony Music Entertainment.

According to raven, the song is inspired by slice-of-life anime shows and his personal encounters with love. 

“On Sinta, I’ve traveled back in time to relive some of my most memorable romantic experiences,” narrates the Balcony Entertainment act. “It’s my way of honoring teen love in its purest form.”

The bedroom-pop heartthrob exudes a breadth of impressive musicianship with his mix of buoyant melodies, irresistible rap verses, and lighthearted arrangements. 

As expected, raven channels his vibey, chill side in a song that sounds delightfully homemade, but certainly isn’t lacking in charisma and confidence. 

“Sinta” is written, produced, mixed, and mastered by raven himself, with guidance from Rico Blanco, his constant mentor and idol. 

“Sir Rico helped me polish the material without sacrificing what makes it a standout,” shares raven. “He was generous enough in sharing his ideas and suggestions when it comes to music.”

To date, raven has more than 15 million streams on Spotify across all credits. In 2021, he released his acclaimed EP, Lika Na, which features his signature hit “Paraluman,” and “S.U.K.I.”

Emirates unveils new closed loop recycling initiative to reduce plastic

Emirates is unveiling a new closed loop recycling initiative this month, where millions of onboard items such as plastic trays, bowls, snack and casserole dishes, will now be recycled in a local facility and remade into fresh, ready-to-use Emirates meal service products.

Marking United Nations’ World Environment Day on 5 June, and the theme of #BeatPlasticPollution, Emirates will introduce the new recycled utensils onboard from June 2023 onwards.

In line with Emirates’ commitment to consuming responsibly, the new initiative is a transition to the principles of a circular economy, whereby items are reduced, reused, and recycled. Millions of old and damaged meal service items from Economy and Premium Economy Class dining will be collected after flights, washed and checked for damage, transported to a facility in Dubai to be ground down, reprocessed, and manufactured into new dishes, bowls and trays – before being sent to Emirates Flight Catering to be used again for thousands of meals in the sky.

In partnership with deSter FZE UAE, a leading provider of serviceware concepts to the aviation industry, and expert in closed loop manufacturing, Emirates will be reusing plastic materials that have already reached their end of life and would otherwise need to be written off. The new trays, casseroles, snack dishes and bowls, potentially containing around 25% reused material (recyclate), will be brought back into service on aircraft across the globe, and the proportion will continue to increase over time.

The team at deSter are members of the CE100 network, which includes some of the world’s leading circular economy companies and have also been awarded the ‘Gold’ Sustainability rating from Ecovadis – a globally recognized certification for sustainable practices. Emirates elected to work with deSter once a facility in UAE was ready to facilitate the huge scale of Emirates’ requirement – substantially reducing the carbon footprint of sending the products to another country to be recycled. The deSter factory also incorporates sustainable design principles focusing on solar power, efficient use of water and minimization of waste. 

Emirates’ commitment to reducing plastic waste

Emirates is committed to reducing plastic waste and has already implemented several initiatives in addition to the new closed loop recycling project.

• Emirates has diverted over 150 million single-use plastic items from landfill each year by replacing plastic straws, inflight retail bags, and stirrers with responsibly sourced paper and wooden alternatives.
• Economy and Premium Economy Class passengers can get comfortable with soft blankets onboard, where each blanket is manufactured from 28 recycled plastic bottles. Over the course of one year, this initiative saves 88 million plastic bottles from landfill.
• Emirates’ current range of inflight toy bags, baby amenity kits and plush toys are made from recycled plastic bottles, and over 8 million plastic bottles were repurposed during 12 months of amenity kit production.
• The hygiene covers for bowls on Emirates meal trays and plastic tumblers are made from 80% recycled plastic (rPET).
• Emirates Economy and Premium Economy amenity kits are made from alternative materials such as kraft paper, rice paper and recycled plastic, reducing the consumption of virgin plastic.
• Emirates Cabin Crew segregate glass and plastic bottles for recycling in Dubai, diverting about 500,000 kilograms of plastic and glass from landfill in 2022.

Tanduay rums come in a wide range of different expressions, with each product offering its own unique flavor.

“From the complex Double Rum that has aged up to 18 years, to the Especia Spiced Rum that has a touch of sweetness and is very approachable - you can drink them just by themselves. I use both at Blu, and they are so easy to work with. They make my job easier. The future between Tanduay and I is bright, I look forward to collaborating with the brand as much as possible,” said New York-based concept beverage director and bartending veteran Jeremy Le Blanche.

Le Blanche has been in the bartending industry for 11 years. He studied hospitality for five years before working as a barback/bartender, another four years for degrees, and one year for his bartending license.

“For the past 8 years, each of my roles was an amazing experience. I learned a lot every single day. From Switzerland to London, London to New York - my most important focus was to never settle, always keep growing and setting new goals for myself,” he said.

Le Blanche shared that traveling around the world opened his mind and made him discover new horizons.

“I became intrigued with mixology and culinary professions. I love how I get to be creative and innovative with my cocktails but also strive for consistency, so every customer gets the perfect cocktail whether it’s made by me or anyone on my team. I love that my role allows me to push the boundaries of what’s possible and to make my cocktails an immersive sensory experience for our guests,” he said.

Le Blanche said that New York is a great city to showcase creativity as it is constantly growing, evolving, and always has an incredible energy at any hour.

Asked how Tanduay would stack up against other brands, Le Blanche said that the product is “very good, very clean.” He shared that Tanduay Double Rum and Especia Spiced Rum by Tanduay are his two favorite expressions at the moment.

The rum market, however, is very competitive.

“It is all about marketing now to make Tanduay grow in the US, so more people know about it and have the chance to try it,” he said.

Le Blanche explained that one can make the most amazing cocktails, but it will not be picked up by the public if it is not promoted well. 

“The same goes for restaurants and bars or anything - being excellent isn’t enough, you have to be unique and have great marketing to connect with people,” he stressed.

Le Blanche first learned of Tanduay when he met its New York brand ambassador, Matt Robertson, on social media.

“He came to Thyme bar to meet with me and we had an instant camaraderie that we have been able to build on over the years. The New York team at Tanduay is amazing and are very supportive. When I first tried the product itself I thought wow, this is very high quality rum and will be easy to incorporate into my cocktails,” he said. 

Le Blanche likes the fact that the rum is from the Philippines as it gets people’s attention.

“It’s unique and makes it easy for me to suggest something new to people. Once they try one of our Tanduay rum cocktails - they usually want to order another,” he said.

“Learning that industry experts like Jeremy likes the flavor profile of Tanduay rums and see their potential in cities like New York is a testament to the brand’s strict adherence to quality and focus on product research and development. It is also a testament to Filipinos’ craftsmanship and ingenuity as all Tanduay products are proudly made in the Philippines and use the best sugarcane in the country,” said Marc Ngo, Tanduay International Business Development Manager and Senior Brand Manager.
