Pinoy hip-hop newcomer Khael Domaro makes a loud entrance with “GODLIKE,” featuring O SIDE MAFIA’s GEE EXCLSV

Saturday, May 31, 2025

Khael Domaro

Filipino newcomer Khael Domaro marks an impressive entry in the local hip-hop scene with the release of his new single “GODLIKE,” a swagger-laced anthem that champions confidence and unapologetic dominance.

The vibey banger features a verse from GEE EXCLSV, a member of the renowned and chart-topping rap collective O SIDE MAFIA, and boasts masterful production from Yung Bawal.

From the very first bar, “GODLIKE” establishes itself as a bold declaration of power. Brimming with heavy-hitting flows, an infectious beat, and undeniable chemistry between the two MCs, the track doesn’t just echo confidence; it defines it.

Domaro shares, “It’s all about coming from nothing and still finding your way to the top. Even when nobody believes in you, you grind, you rise, and eventually you reign like the king of everything.”

The recording process was both organic and intuitive— a testament to each artist’s trust in their craft. Khael laid down his verses in his hometown in Cabuyao, Laguna, before sending the track off to Gee for his contribution. “I knew I was in my God mode when writing my lyrics,” he recalls. “And when Gee sent his draft back… Bang! It was GODLIKE.”

Instrumentally, the song is a standout. Yung Bawal’s beat is slick, aggressive, and dripping with style, serving as a perfect canvas for a lyrical firestorm that follows. “He’s got demon-level skills,” Khael praises Yung Bawal’s output. “I used to watch him back in the day when I was still dreaming. Now that I’ve worked with him, it felt surreal.”

Lyrically, “GODLIKE” is a statement. It’s Khael Domaro’s claim to his place in the ever-evolving landscape of Pinoy hip-hop/rap. But even amidst the bravado, Khael Domaro stays grounded in authenticity. He explains, “I never write anything that’s not true to me. The swag, the confidence, the energy—that’s all real.”

Looking ahead, Khael hints that “GODLIKE” is only the beginning. “I’ve got a lot of unreleased tracks, each with a different sound,” says the rookie rapper. “Expect the unexpected: I’m unpredictable, and I like it that way.”

Khael Domaro’s “GODLIKE” is now available on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment. Watch out for the music video drop of “GODLIKE” on his official YouTube channel.

From soft to smoldering: dwta embraces graceful wrath in new single “Nasusunog (Pants On Fire)”

Following the commercial acclaim of “Sampung Mga Daliri,” her collaborative single with SB19’s Justin, Filipino singer-songwriter dwta returns to the spotlight with her new single “Nasusunog (Pants On Fire)”—released under Sony Music Entertainment.

Marking a striking departure from her signature folk-pop sound, “Nasusunog” delivers an anthem that effortlessly weaves confessional introspection with alt-rock instrumentation. Written by Jhasmine Villanueva (dwta) with Tiana Kocher, Ashley Mehta, and Martin Estrada during the Sony x Monostereo Groove songwriting session earlier this year, the track pulsates with dynamic, in-your-face arrangements, urgent rhythms, and simmering rage. This is her Jagged Little Pill era, but with her voice still grounded in sincerity.

The Bicol-born artist describes “Nasusunog (Pants On Fire)” as an exploration of what she calls a graceful wrath, the act of expressing anger in a way that remains vulnerable and composed. “It’s not screaming or exploding; it’s just simply burning, quietly and beautifully.”

The song’s conceptual genesis came from a simple but loaded childhood phrase, “Liar, liar, pants on fire,” which also serves as the song’s alternative title. What began as a playful idiom quickly revealed deeper implications. “We realized it could symbolize how deceit burns through trust,” she adds. “It became the foundation for a song about reclaiming power and releasing long-suppressed emotions.”

Recorded with Martin Estrada at the helm of production and Brian Lotho as co-producer, “Nasusunog (Pants On Fire)” retains essential elements of dwta’s sound—percussion, acoustic textures, and ornamental strings—while venturing into darker, brooding sonic terrain. The electric guitar work, in particular, lends an edge that mirrors the song’s emotional weight.

Citing Lizzy McAlpine’s “Erase Me” as a reference point, dwta embraced a moodier palette and created a track that speaks not only to her personal journey, but also to shared experiences of betrayal and resilience, especially among women.

“It wasn’t just about me, though. It was like a collective emotion from all of us in the room,” the Santigwar artist shares. “We talked about people who lie, manipulate, and make you feel small, and how we were all done with that. So the song became this emotional release, like a shared fire we all needed to let out.”

With “Nasusunog (Pants On Fire),” dwta continues to evolve as one of the most reliable singer-songwriters of her generation, one who is unafraid to confront her fears with authenticity and grace. The new track reinforces her commitment to honest storytelling while unfolding a new dimension to her journey as an artist.

dwta’s “Nasusunog (Pants On Fire)” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Myles Smith drops new EP, A Minute, A Moment…

Myles Smith

After an extraordinary 18 months that saw him rise from grassroots acclaim to international recognition, British singer-songwriter Myles Smith today makes a powerful return with the release of his deeply emotive new EP, “A Minute, A Moment…”. Fresh off a whirlwind tour across the United States and Australia - where he played to packed venues and received critical praise - Myles has channeled his experiences, reflections, and growth into this six-track collection.

Written and recorded over the past year, the EP is a poignant snapshot of a transformative period in his life. Stripped back yet richly layered, “A Minute, A Moment…” finds Myles at his most raw and introspective, delving deep into themes of identity, love, heartbreak and self-discovery. “This EP has been a real labour of love, months of time, care, and everything I had to give.” Myles recently said of the EP in an Instagram post.

His signature blend of soulful vocals, acoustic textures, and heartfelt lyricism remains front and center, but there’s a new depth and maturity to his songwriting that signals an exciting new chapter in his artistic evolution. Marking a clear departure from his earlier EP “A Minute…”, which introduced his sound with youthful optimism and simplicity, this latest project embraces a more nuanced emotional landscape and refined sonic palette.

2024 was a landmark year for Myles. From winning the BRITs’ Rising Star award to being named BBC Introducing Artist of the Year and landing a spot on the BBC Sound of 2024 longlist, his rise has been nothing short of meteoric. His breakthrough single, “Stargazing,” became the biggest global hit of the year by a UK artist, spending 29 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and amassing over 730 million global Spotify streams. With over 2 billion streams across his catalogue, “Stargazing” has cemented itself as a modern classic, topping airplay charts across the US, UK, Germany, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Switzerland.

His moment at the 2025 BRIT Awards also made headlines for more than just the award and his stand-out performance. His powerful acceptance speech called on the government to do more to support the arts and ensure future generations have access to creative opportunities, echoing the very message of resilience and advocacy found in his music. Myles also lent his voice to Ed Sheeran’s recent grassroots campaign focused on music education and the survival of grassroots venues in the UK, adding his name to Ed’s open letter to policymakers. Behind the scenes, Myles himself is actively developing his own initiatives aimed at supporting young creatives - with more to be revealed in due course.

His previously released EP ‘A Minute…’ further solidified his status and features his hit single “Nice To Meet You.” In 2024, he played sold-out shows across the globe and appeared on major platforms including the TODAY Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Later… with Jools Holland. Looking ahead, Myles is currently in the midst of his world live tour, ahead of joining Ed Sheeran on the European leg of the Mathematics Tour.

Hailing from Luton, Myles’ journey is rooted in authenticity. Taught to play guitar and piano by age 12, he cut his teeth performing in local pubs and open-mic nights before gaining momentum in 2020. His viral covers of “Sweater Weather” and “I Found” opened the door to original tracks like “Solo” and “My Home,” leading to his signing with Sony’s RCA label in 2023.

Myles Smith’s ability to connect through heartfelt storytelling and melodic sincerity has made him one of the UK’s most compelling new voices and his trajectory shows no signs of slowing down.

Tracklist:

1. Made For Me
2. Gold
3. My First Heartbreak
4. Someone New
5. All My Life

AXEAN Festival returns to Bali this September 2025

AXEAN Festival proudly announces its return to Bali this year with an expanded vision and more comprehensive programming. Happening from September 13-14, 2025, at the Jimbaran Hub, Southeast Asia’s first intra-regional music showcase event is set to transform the island into a two-day convergence of sound, innovation, culture, and collaboration.

Positioned as a “celebration across borders,” AXEAN Festival will showcase over 40 emerging and established acts from Southeast Asia and beyond while exploring new educational and collaborative formats that strengthen the creative and business ecosystems across the region.

Building on last year’s acclaimed edition, this year’s event elevates its commitment to providing a holistic experience not only for the fans but also for the artists and industry stakeholders that make this celebration possible.

“AXEAN Festival has always been a labor of love for all of us co-founders—driven by passion, run pro bono, and built with bootstrapped resources,” shares AXEAN Festival co-founder and team leader Piyapong Muenprasertdee. “We've consistently pushed the limits of what’s possible with limited funding, and the positive impact we’ve made so far is a testament to that dedication.”

Piyapong adds, “We’ll keep doing what we do best: turning passion into purpose and creating meaningful opportunities for artists and industry alike—whether we’re working with a shoestring budget or something more.”

Among the festival’s hallmark offerings this year is its music conference segment, featuring curated panel discussions, business pitching sessions, and structured speed meetings between delegates and artists, which were designed to foster impactful conversations and long-term partnerships.

In addition, AXEAN Festival hones its artist-centered programming with the return of its songwriting camp—a four-day initiative inviting select showcasing artists, producers, and songwriters to co-create in an intimate, cross-cultural setting. The inaugural camp last year resulted in the creation of 20 original songs, exemplifying the creative possibilities the festival cultivates.

For the first time, AXEAN Festival also shines a spotlight on Southeast Asia’s burgeoning rave, dance, and electronic culture with the launch of its SEA Club Showcase—a live music platform dedicated to regional electronic subcultures such as Indonesian funkot or dangdut, Vietnamese vinahouse, Singaporean/Malaysian manyao, and Filipino budots. The newly minted stage honors the unique grassroots genres that are redefining the international club scene with distinctly local flair.

AXEAN Festival Co-founder and co-director David Siow emphasizes the importance of authenticity and intent in the festival’s DNA: “On the delegates' front, the intentions of the AXEAN team are clear—we really just want the artists to succeed, and we do all we can to make that happen. People do sense authenticity and intent, so having a unified goal and communicating that honestly allows for the music industry to trust us.”

David also pointed out how AXEAN Festival’s casual and welcoming nature contributed to its success and appeal. “The relaxed and jubilant atmosphere of the festival, conference, and songwriting camp, are direct reflection of the personalities in the AXEAN team. But don’t be fooled; some serious business and networking is happening for delegates and artists whilst the public enjoys the showcasing part.”

Piyapong agrees with David’s statements, noting that AXEAN Festival’s success lies in its people. “Over the years, I’ve made it a personal mission to invite people I’ve connected with—those who bring positive vibes and a collaborative spirit—to simply come as they are,” he shares. “This openness creates a welcoming atmosphere where even first-time attendees or those who come alone can feel at ease, enjoy the music and environment, and organically build meaningful connections. That positive energy is contagious—it helps break down barriers, encourages real conversations, and often leads to exciting new collaborations and business opportunities. Overall, it’s the community spirit and the human connection that make the festival truly special.”

Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, the team envisions expanding the festival’s reach through deeper strategic partnerships, enhanced sustainability measures, and ever more dynamic, inclusive programming.

“Whether you’re a delegate, an artist, or a music lover attending for the first time, we invite you to discover the joy of connection, creativity, and cultural celebration at AXEAN Festival 2025,” says Piyapong.

GIVÄ’ON unleashes new single and music video “Rather Be”

Saturday, May 24, 2025

Multi-platinum seven-time GRAMMY® nominee GIVÄ’ON continues his sophomore chapter with the release of his new single and video, “Rather Be.” The new single and its Loris Russier-directed music video are available now.

“Rather Be” is GIVÄ’ON at his most comfortable: vulnerable, confident and unafraid to let his vocal range do some heavy lifting. The ballad is produced by Sevn Thomas, Maneesh, Matthew Burnett, jeff gitty and jahaan sweet and incorporates the bells and whistles fans have come to love from the Long Beach native, from the horns peppered throughout its instrumental to the intimacy and dashing fashion of its music video. Following the release of the cathartic lead single from his new campaign, “Twenties,” GIVÄ’ON is generating impressive momentum, and pouring his heart into each lyric along the way.

The Russier-directed cut is an elegant montage of GIVÄ’ON and his sleek troupe adorning airy spaces with a live rendition of the new song, as GIVÄ’ON, the protagonist, tries to get comfortable with his love interest. Russier deftly plays with planes of space and symmetry to create a unique backdrop for the singer and his suit-clad crew.

“This song is a reflection on acceptance. The idea of seeing someone’s flaws and choosing to stay,” GIVÄ’ON said about “Rather Be. “It’s about loving someone not for who they could be, but for who they are, and realizing that real connection isn’t about starting over, it’s about holding on.”

As fans eagerly anticipate his sophomore project, GIVÄ’ON’s 2025 has already been one to remember. He celebrated the five-year anniversary of his breakout project, 2020’s TAKE TIME EP, with an intimate performance earlier this year in Los Angeles, attended by the likes of Epic Chairwoman Sylvia Rhone, Lena Waithe, Amerie and Jimmy Jam.

Shortly afterwards, “Twenties” notched a slot within the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart and went on to achieve a Top 20 position on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. The song’s music video has already surpassed 12 million YouTube views and earned GIVÄ’ON the fourth Hot 100 hit of his solo career.

Earlier this month at Prada’s prestigious annual pre-Met Gala event, GIVÄ’ON took the stage to perform “Twenties” live for a crowd that included Tracee Ellis Ross and Hunter Schafer. This summer, GIVÄ’ON is up for a 2025 BET Award, ‘Best Collaboration,’ for his collaboration with Teddy Swims, “Are You Even Real.”

SM Cinema Brings Magic Through ‘Movies for the Blind’

Saturday, May 10, 2025

For most, watching a movie is an everyday treat. But for those with visual impairments, it’s often an experience left out of reach. Led by Project ADAM (Audio Description Awareness Movement), SM Cares, SM Cinema, GMA Pictures, GMA Public Affairs, and Hit Productions Inc., with support from The Nippon Foundation, Overbrook School for the Blind, CBM Global, ICEVI, Beneficent Technology, Inc. (Bookshare) and Quantum Post, families and individuals across the country are discovering the magic of the movies—together.

As part of SM Supermalls’ ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion, SM malls have begun hosting audio-described film screenings specially designed for persons who are blind or visually impaired. These unique screenings include narrated descriptions of scenes, settings, and actions, allowing all moviegoers to share in the full experience.

For many attendees, the program is more than just entertainment—it’s a moment of connection, belonging, and joy. Parents have shared how this initiative makes their children feel seen, valued, and included. Teachers and caregivers say it gives their students a rare opportunity to participate equally in something as simple—but meaningful—as a trip to the cinema.

“This is more than just a film screening—it’s a movement,” says Project ADAM Convenor Ronnel del Rio. “We’re paving the way for a future where accessibility in media is the norm, not the exception.” Project ADAM is also pushing for legislation to make Audio Description a standard feature in Filipino films, ensuring equal access to entertainment for all.

The screenings are part of SM Cares’ year-round efforts to make public spaces more inclusive. A culminating event will be held at SM Megamall in August 2 in celebration of White Cane Safety Day, recognizing the rights and dignity of persons with visual impairment.

“Movies for the Blind is a reminder that inclusion starts with empathy—by opening our spaces, we open hearts,” said Engr. Bien C. Mateo, SM Cares Program Director for Disability Affairs. “With this new innovative way of presenting movies to our audiences, we hope to increase accessibility and touch even more lives through the wonders of cinema and storytelling,” added Engr. Bien C. Mateo.

Through programs like this, SM continues to show that every mall can be a safe, welcoming space for all—regardless of ability.

For more information about ‘Movies for the Blind’ and other inclusivity programs, visit SM Cares’ official website or follow them on social media.

Multi-platinum artist James Arthur releases new album PISCES

Tuesday, May 6, 2025

Following the massive success of his chart-topping album Bitter Sweet Love, James Arthur returns with his most personal project to date: PISCES – out now.

With PISCES, James takes listeners on a deeply emotional journey. Building on the raw honesty of his November 2024 single “ADHD,” the album showcases a more experimental, atmospheric sound while staying true to his signature vulnerability and emotional depth.

As the title suggests, PISCES is heavily inspired by James’ astrological identity. The songs reflect the duality of the Pisces personality – introspective, sensitive, and dreamy. “I’m a Pisces, and I’ve always resonated with those traits. Each track on this album is a part of me, a building block of who I am. PISCES just felt like the natural title to bring everything together,” James explains.

Sonically, the album marks a bold evolution. Known for his powerful vocals and heartfelt ballads, James takes a different path here – embracing a softer, more ethereal sound. “I wanted this project to feel different – dreamier and more intimate. People often expect big, emotional ballads from me, but I’ve always had more to offer. This time, I wanted to strip things back and explore a gentler approach,” he shares.

James co-wrote the majority of PISCES with long-time collaborator Steve Solomon, working with a handpicked group of musicians to bring the album’s vision to life. “We leaned into the concept of Pisces to shape the songwriting. It gave me the freedom to be open and creative. I really think this is the most personal project I’ve ever made – the reins are off. These songs are a part of me, they give me chills,” James says.

At its core, PISCES is about connection – with the music, with emotions, and with the audience. “I wanted to create music that makes people feel something – and gives fans a real insight into who I am. The highs and the lows, the dreams and the reality. That duality is at the heart of every song on this album.”

PISCES is available now on all platforms.

Peder Elias releases new single “Call My Name”

Norwegian artist and songwriter Peder Elias Eriksrud Kjørholt releases “Call My Name” via Sony Music.

“Call My Name" is a song about wanting to be there for someone, especially if they’re going through hard times. I lead a busy life, but it would really break my heart if the people closest to me didn’t trust me to drop anything to be with them if they need me.”

The 28-year-old wrote “Call My Name” in London with Alex Charles, Ryan Bickley and producer Freedo (Zara Larsson, The Chainsmokers) and shared that the collaboration and creative process was seamlessly organic.

“We work well together, and the whole creative process felt right from the start. Not because it’s effortless, but because I feel challenged in a good way. And on a personal note, it feels as if Call My Name shows how I’m maturing as a person and a songwriter.”

Pop music is a surprisingly common source of comfort for a lot of people. Both directly with how the music makes them feel, and how they relate to the lyrics, but also the sense of community from knowing that someone else has gone through similar things and felt similar emotions.

“As much as I rely on talking with those closest to me when life overwhelms me, I’ve always taken a lot of comfort in the music. Making it and listening to it. And that’s what I hope my music can do for others. I can’t describe how motivated and privileged I feel when fans share stories of how my music and lyrics has touched them and even impacted their lives. It is such an honour to know that my music helps them through difficult times”.

After recently showcasing his sense of humour with “If I Got a Dollar” , “Call My Name” is even closer to Peder Elias’ heart and he’s excited to share it with whoever needs to tell someone that they are here for them, or who simply needs to feel comforted.

Peder Elias is currently touring Southeast Asia playing for fans in new cities and countries.

“On the day of release, I’m actually travelling between Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Manila in the Philippines. I’ve never been to Malaysia before, but I visited the Philippines last year and had a great time doing promo and meeting fans. And tasting the fantastic desserts. I think I’d like to celebrate the release with leche flan and halo-halo which I’ve craved since I first tasted it.”

“Call My Name” by Norwegian pop-sensation Peder Elias is out everywhere on Friday 11th April.

Kai Buizon captures the magic of romantic serendipity in new track “Milagro”

Sunday, April 13, 2025

Rising Filipino singer-songwriter Kai Buizon captures the wonder of unexpected connection in her latest single, “Milagro,” out via Sony Music Entertainment. So surprising yet profound, it feels like a miracle.

Co-written by Kai Buizon and her mother, Felichi Pangilinan-Buizon, the bossa nova-inspired track explores a love so unforeseen it feels almost supernatural. It delicately weaves a story of romantic serendipity, capturing the feeling of finding a love that feels like a rare blessing—one that brings a sense of safety and acceptance never felt before.

Buizon explains that the song speaks to someone who has never experienced love quite like this before. “When they finally find a love that makes them truly accepted in ways they never imagined, it does feel like a miracle,” she shares.

The lyrics draw inspiration from the Japanese concept of Koi No Yokan, which describes “the feeling upon first meeting someone that you will inevitably fall in love with them” or a more patient, intuitive version of love at first sight.

“It’s like having a hunch upon hearing the first few seconds of a song that you’re gonna love it,” Buizon adds. “That’s why in Milagro, even though the lyrics narrate the beginning of the connection as an initial attraction, it makes sure to say that the actual part of falling in love happened slowly. As the lyrics go, unti-unting umibig din.”

Buoyed by syncopated rhythms, lighthearted jazz arrangements, and sweet vocals, “Milagro” channels the influence of bossa greats João Gilberto and Astrud Gilberto while also embracing the modern indie aesthetics of Ginger Root and The Marias. Additionally, the promising young act cites Juan Tizol & Duke Ellington’s work “Caravan” as a sonic reference, pointing out how its subtle mix of warmth and nostalgia brought a different side of her, both as a vocalist and as a storyteller.

Interestingly, the song’s production took an unexpected yet organic turn when Raki Natividad, who Buizon invited to do the guitar solo, composed something entirely different from what was on the demo track. “My producer Rau Layug and I ended up liking the new solo so much that we decided to embrace the bossa-nova vibe throughout the rest of the track,” the artist explains.

During production, Rau Layug recorded himself scraping the surface of his wallet with a brush to evoke a scratchy percussive sound, adding a unique dimension to the overall appeal of the track.

Kai Buizon shares that Rau was such a joy to work with, complementing his Midas touch on the material. “I’ve always admired Rau for being talented in the mixing and mastering department,” adds Buizon.

Kai Buizon’s “Milagro” is now available on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment. Watch out for the lyric visualizer on her official YouTube channel.

Ace Banzuelo explores the hopeful, more meaningful side of love in “Kilala”

Friday, April 11, 2025

Ace Banzuelo

The track sets the tone for his new era in music

Ace Banzuelo examines the beauty of fleeting yet profound connections in his new single “Kilala,” released under Sony Music Entertainment.

A dreamy, melancholic pop track, “Kilala” revels in romantic longing: those heart-fluttering moments that often escape definition. In Ace’s universe, love doesn’t always require shout-from-the-rooftops kind of admission or grand declarations. Sometimes, it lingers in the quiet, unscripted moments that leave imprint long after they pass.

“You may not realize it, but it could be love,” he adds. “This song is about not wanting to lose someone you know you have a great connection with. A lot of people can relate to this.”

Set against a backdrop of minimal guitars, gentle synths, and electronic flourishes, “Kilala” delivers a vocal performance that is bright and hopeful, yet punctuated with emotionally incisive tone. The song proves that Ace thrives in the contemporary pop music realm, exercising his potential as a future visionary.

The Muli act speaks fondly about the creative process behind his new song, emphasizing his hands-on approach to songwriting and production. “I mixed real and digital percussive elements on this track and recorded with a new guitar. It’s my new baby, I love it so much. Kilala is one of the new songs I wrote and recorded in my new place/studio as well. I’ve been enjoying the view and making songs in that room.”

Having previous explored themes of heartbreak and missed connections, Ace is ready to embrace a different approach to songwriting, one that delves with the intricacies of love and emotional awakening. “Kilala” serves as a prelude to a new chapter in his release cycle, where he aims to channel these sentiments through his signature brand of alt-pop storytelling. It’s also his first release of 2025, which marks the beginning of his “love song” era.

“I’ve been coming out with a lot of heartbreak songs since my Red era,” admits Ace. “This time, I want to release songs that explore the softer, more optimistic side of love.”

Ace Banzuelo’s “Kilala” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment. The track’s visualizer will be out today at 7 pm.

SOS Memorializes Maturity In Highly Anticipated Sophomore Album, ‘It Was A Moment’

Wednesday, April 2, 2025

The second full-length album sees the band’s contemplative departure from the coming-of-age ‘Whatever That Was’ era

The highly anticipated sophomore album of SOS, It Was A Moment, is finally here.

Following the release of the carrier single, “Yumi & The Apocalypse” earlier this month, SOS’s latest 11-track project is characterized by the band as a complete departure from their beloved debut album, Whatever That Was, released in 2017. Whereas its predecessor is more reactive and immediate, It Was A Moment is lighter and less fussy in many ways, removing the proverbial chip on the shoulder. Technically, it’s as exacting as one can expect from the group—more sonically expansive and experimental, primarily thanks to the beautifully added sheen of synths and keys to classic SOS anthemic guitars—but thematically, It Was A Moment sees members Seña, Andrew, Anjo, King, and Ram become more deliberate spectators of others as much as themselves (“employing the ‘art of noticing,’” Seña remarks) while keeping the interior feel and unfading anxieties of Whatever That Was.

Of the shift in tone, Andrew explains, “Whatever That Was is a product of constant road-testing and weekly bar shows that shaped the performances of the tracks upon recording. It Was A Moment is more like a lab experiment.” King describes it as a reflection of “transitional stages” of their lives—entering into their 30s, with bigger worlds and more responsibilities. This also marks the band’s first full-length release since the addition of Ram in 2023.

The album includes four previously released singles, “Seryoso” and “Please Lang” (the only two Tagalog-language songs in the band’s discography so far), “Roses” and long-time fan-favorite “Amore” (which was finally released in October last year), as well as the carrier single, “Yumi & The Apocalypse.”

SOS continues to contend with weariness in “I’m Kidding” and “Money” while fighting off cynicism in “Yumi & The Apocalypse” and “It’s History.” Meanwhile, relationship woes become more bearable with faith in “Love Kept Us Warm,” but “French Exit” makes the case for knowing when to call it quits. While these binaries are broader, album closer and standout track “It Was A Moment” was described as “a love letter to SOS fans.” While it contains lyrical and sonic callbacks to past SOS eras, the title track dovetails the enduring appeal of the older SOS catalog with more adventurous production—and earns its longer runtime. It’s the kind of grownness that never punctuates, just evolves.

Following the album release, SOS is set to hit the road (and continue writing, according to Ram). “We’re planning on touring the album around Metro Manila first and we’ll probably have a few shows outside if time permits! We just want to share our journey as SOS and hopefully have the album resonate to people who need to hear our new songs,” shares King.

It Was A Moment was recorded at the band’s Bavarian Studios in La Union, mixed and mastered by Cholo Hermosa of 15D Studio Mix (“Please Lang” was mastered by Chris Gheringer), with vocal engineering by Eric Trono. Vocals recorded at Careless Complex, drums for “Amore” and “Love Kept Us Warm” recorded at Kwarto Studios. Trumpet on “Yumi & The Apocalypse” was performed by Kiddo Cosio.

It Was A Moment tracklist:

1.Amore
2.Roses
3.I'm Kidding
4.It's History
5.French Exit
6.Money
7.Please Lang
8.Seryoso

Waiian drops manifesto of authenticity and self-expression with third album, BACKSHOTS

Tuesday, March 18, 2025

Waiian

Filipino rapper Waiian delivers a raw, unfiltered commentary on music and personal life with his highly anticipated third album, BACKSHOTS.

With the 9-track release, the acclaimed emcee takes a bold stand against the absurdity of the music establishment and trends, refusing to conform to social expectations, while reinforcing the importance of authenticity and staying true to one’s craft.

“BACKSHOTS serves as my testament to consistently speak my truth,” says the Solo Mission act. “The album is my rebelling against being known solely for motivational bars. Although I still believe in my roots, I also want to showcase my lighter side: the playful, humorous person who enjoys my life journey even as I pursue my rap career.”

Produced with Love and Rage

The album, produced by Kashira Music Prod and Pistolgrip, was shaped through a mix of love and raw emotion, challenging Waiian to rap over sonic experiments and eclectic beats. Throughout the project, the Makati City-based hip-hop artist credits his inspiration to artists who are not afraid to push the boundaries of songwriting, performance, and production.

“I drew inspiration from artists like Teezo Touchdown, Kanye West, Brockhampton, Kendrick Lamar, Denzel Curry and my past work, and more,” shares Waiian. “The 9-track album organically took shape, mirroring the cycle of life—its beginning and its inevitable end.”

A Journey of Growth and Reflection

BACKSHOTS offers a mix of seriousness and silliness, satire and sincerity, chaos and freedom. Lovingly layered with care and attention, the album takes listeners through unrefined thoughts and emotions, challenging and subverting traditional ideas of how music should be presented. With each track, Waiian blends confessional storytelling with unwavering commitment to his narrative, capturing both his growth as an artist and his reflections on career and life.

Key highlights from the album include “MAN IN THE MERROR,” the first track that he finished for this particular project, and “SI LODS NA ANG BAHALA,” which serves as a deep introspection of his life in a 3 minute and 32 second wav file. While he dedicates love, time, and focus to every single song in the record, making sure that each track possess its own distinct thought and direction, the aforementioned track reveals a splash of sentimentality that fits neatly alongside his earlier and current catalog.

He confides, “There is this one song that made me the most emotional when I came home from finishing it after several days of straight studio sessions. It’s SI LODS NA BAHALA, and I felt great being able to channel my life whereabouts in the confines of a song. It could be one of my favorite songs to perform from now.”

Music Video Releases

Waiian plans to accompany the release of the album with visuals featuring renowned collaborators and friends. The music video for “LODS NA BAHALA,” in particular, will have its own treatment, complete with archival imagery and locations from his formative years, including excerpts from the short films he made as a student and places he used to hang out at. “It’s about remembering my roots as a creative. These elements are blended with footage from my current life and experiences reflecting my artistic evolution.”

Additionally, the music video for “MAN IN THE MERROR,” which was directed Miguel Garcia from Madman Creative Solutions, will showcase his fun and goofy side, featuring places and people close to Waiian’s heart. He’s also in the pre-production stages of the music video of “SOFTIE,” which will highlight diverse couples representing various underrepresented identities in mainstream media, as well as a collaboration with Geloy Concepcion.

Live Performances and Upcoming Shows

Waiian will debut songs off BACKSHOTS live at the Wanderland Music and Arts Festival, where he’s meticulously planning and rehearsing every song for that special day to ensure a solid performance. Fans can expect a dynamic and energetic live set that captures the raw energy and emotional depth of his new album. He’s also set to co-headline the upcoming ALL OF THE NOISE music summit, along with Taiwanese band The Chairs, Singaporean rapper San The Wordsmith, and Thai indie pop collective KIKI.

NOBITA Breaks Boundaries with Genre-Defying Single "PNYT" Featuring Flow G

Monday, February 10, 2025

NOBITA

Filipino alternative pop sensation NOBITA is making waves once again with their latest single, "PNYT", a bold and emotionally charged anthem that pushes the boundaries of their signature ‘hugot’ songwriting. Known for chart-topping hits like "Ikaw Lang" and "Unang Sayaw", the five-piece band is set to captivate an even wider audience with this genre-blending masterpiece.

A Fresh Sound: NOBITA x Flow G

A daring departure from their usual sentimental ballads, "PNYT" sees NOBITA venturing into rock, R&B, and hip-hop, delivering an electrifying collaboration with award-winning rapper Flow G. The track opens with gripping guitar riffs and an infectious beat, setting the stage for a raw and vulnerable exploration of love’s unpredictable and often devastating nature.

“Extreme emotions require extreme expressions,” the band shared in a statement. “We’re happy to channel the song’s frustrating agony while maintaining the right balance of sensitivity and control.”

Working with Flow G introduced a fresh dynamic to their music, pushing them to explore new sonic landscapes. “We added our own flavor but also ventured into a space we don’t normally explore. It’s exhilarating to step outside of our comfort zone and create something fresh.”

Serendipitous Collaboration with Flow G

The partnership between NOBITA and Flow G came about unexpectedly after multiple encounters at weddings and music festivals. Though not initially close, a mutual admiration for each other’s craft led to an Instagram message that set the collaboration in motion. The result? A high-energy, genre-bending track that perfectly balances NOBITA’s emotional depth with Flow G’s dynamic lyricism.

A Testament to Growth and Experimentation

"PNYT" is more than just a song—it’s a statement. With its aggressive instrumentation, intense vocal delivery, and fearless storytelling, the track marks a significant evolution in NOBITA’s artistry. From multiple revisions to refining every beat and lyric, the band poured their hearts into crafting an anthem that resonates deeply while hitting hard.

“This track really challenged us,” NOBITA admitted. “It took us to places we never expected to go musically, but we embraced the challenge and came out stronger.”

With its fatalistic energy, raw emotions, and undeniable urgency, "PNYT" is set to be one of NOBITA’s most talked-about releases yet.

Paham

The 12-track release serves as a love letter for a new generation of listeners

Five-piece “harana pop” outfit Paham has dropped their self-titled debut album today via Sony Music Entertainmentand Off The Record. The 12-track record invites listeners into a whimsical journey of love, resilience, and hope, woven together with themes that speak directly to the heart.

From the excitement of finding someone special to the trials that test its endurance, Paham captures the raw emotions and uncertainties of modern relationships. Each track is a heartfelt chapter in a larger narrative, navigating the complications and complexities of life and romance in the 21st century.

“The inspiration behind Paham comes from our personal experiences,” the band shares in a collective statement. “We wanted to offer listeners a window into our journey, to make them see the world through our eyes, and to share our story as Paham.”

From tender ballads to anthemic pop-rock numbers, Paham is a personal letter set to music: straightforward yet brimming with sincere emotions. Shiny on the surface but layered with depth, the album effectively captures the zeitgeist of today, complemented by some of the strongest, most infectious melodies this side of contemporary pop.

“Our songwriting process evolves alongside cultural shifts,” the band explains. “We stay attuned to the conversations people are having, so when we release music, our audience can truly connect with it. It’s a challenge for us to maintain consistency, as we want every track to offer something unique in sound and emotion.”

At its core, the album serves as a refuge for anyone who feels lost and vulnerable. “We want our songs to speak to listeners, no matter what they’re feeling—whether it’s sadness, insecurity, or moments of doubt. Our music is for everyone, wherever they are in their own emotional journey.”

One of the standout tracks on Paham is the reimagined version of the band’s viral hit “Hiraya,” now retitled “Hiraya (Haharanahin Kita).” The new rendition features a subtle orchestral arrangement that adds an elegant touch to the song, elevating it to a more romantic, wedding-worthy ballad.

“We wanted to give a more refined, graceful take on the song that felt like a celebration of love,” Paham explains. “It’s our way of making the song even more romantic and timeless.”

With over two million streams on Spotify and more than 11,000 videos shared on TikTok and Instagram, “Hiraya” has become an unstoppable anthem of love and longing for a lot of music fans.

Paham, the debut album from the band of the same name, is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment and Off The Record.
