Hashtag Asia Awards

Filipinos are listed among the best of the best in social media

The prestigious Hashtag Asia Awards has announced its 2024 finalists. Among them are NYMA talents "Lumpia Queen" Abi Marquez, beauty influencer Adelina Eugenio, compelling storyteller and cycling advocate Lester "Buji" Babiera, and versatile artist Raco Ruiz. With millions of views on TikTok, Marquez's viral Kanto-Style Fried Chicken Recipe is up for “Best Campaign by a Mega Influencer.” Eugenio’s review of Luxe Organix's Salt Scrub, and Buji Babiera’s advocacy-driven video for Verde Island Passage protection are nominated in the same category. Ruiz’s wit and humor shine in his #ChickenCheck video, now in the running for ‘Best Campaign by a Macro Influencer.”

The talent management NYMA looks to catapult Filipino talent to the world stage. Its roster includes more stars like Kristel Fulgar, Christian Bautista, and Pat Tingjuy.

A grateful Babiera– known for his horror “Storytime” videos– posted about the nomination, writing, “I just want to tell stories—whether they’re horror stories, romance, comedy, my experiences or how my day went. But when I started my TikTok, I wanted to make sure I used this platform for my advocacies. I’m privileged and honored that I’ve gained a following where people listen to what I say.”

“A big thanks also to my @nyma_mgmt [NYMA management] fam for their support & for believing in what I do,” Babiera added.

And Babiera may be one of the lucky few making an acceptance speech on May 3. The awards ceremony is set on this day at the InterContinental Singapore. Marquez, Eugenio, and Babiera are up against fellow digital stars such as C-pop singer Tia Lee and fitness influencer Pamela Reif. Hong Kong boy band MIRROR, model-actor Jeffrey Ngai, and Indonesian gaming star Rachael Melati Nalapraya are vying for the Best Campaign by a Macro Influencer prize alongside Ruiz.

“To be placed alongside such greats in the industry is truly a privilege. We have lots of fun doing this kind of stuff, and to potentially be awarded for that is surreal to me,” Ruiz said.

Eugenio described the nomination as unbelievable, saying, “Never in my life would I have thought na ma-nonominate ako by this kind of awards body! [ Never in my life would I have though I would be nominated by this kind of awards body! ]”

Meanwhile, Marquez is hot off the heels of another win as she was named the 28th Webby Awards People’s Voice Winner in the General Social: Food & Drink category last April 23. The Filipina influencer joins celebrities like Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo in the list of 2024 Webby Award winners.

Marquez, Eugenio, Babiera, and Ruiz are under the talent management NYMA, which looks to catapult Filipino talent to the world stage. Its roster includes more stars like Frances Cabatuando, Kristel Fulgar, Christian Bautista (co-managed with The Stages Group), and Pat Tingjuy.

Luke Hemmings ushers in new era with the release of new EP, boy

Monday, April 29, 2024

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Luke Hemmings has released his highly-anticipated new EP, boy, via Arista Records. The record, co-produced with longtime collaborator Sammy Witte (Maggie Rogers, Harry Styles, Freya Ridings), is a concise and cohesive 7-track coterie of songs, each offering a new sense of maturity, growth, and humanity for Hemmings. Arriving alongside the project is a stunning official visual EP consisting of all seven tracks which premiered globally for eager fans on YouTube at midnight. Watch here. Hemmings today also released his deeply felt single “Benny” and its companion visualizer. “Benny’s” dreamy soundscape is an ode to family, but one that aches with the loss of a life sometimes lived on their periphery.

“The song is about guilt I spend a lot of time away from my family and live in a different country than them. As you get older and life moves on, things happen at home and it’s the guilt of not being there and missing moments. It’s hard to miss the good moments, but even harder to miss the bad moments. You can’t be there to fix it all and be there for the ones you love,” revealed Hemmings. Watch here.

boy’s 7 dynamic new tracks, showcase Hemmings' lyrical and sonic evolution right from the start with the EP’s opener, "I'm Still Your Boy." Launching with the hazy strum of an acoustic guitar and lashings of stacked vocal tracks, the production ebbs outwards, contracting for the pre-chorus before exploding out on the chorus, Hemmings, mantra like, repeating the phrase: “I’m still your boy.” Lyrically, the track anchors the EP’s larger narrative theme of the liminal space between youth and adulthood. Guided by an introspective Hemmings, still grappling to hold on to his fading boyhood, each subsequent song draws listeners further into the artists dreamlike realm where themes of youth's departure, fear, solitude, and hope reverberate powerfully throughout the project.

When asked about the inspiration for boy, Hemmings explains, “The majority of the songs for boy were written at a time in my life when I was a stranger to stillness. The songs were born on planes and hotel room notepads, muttering under my breath while walking through new cities each day. I was disoriented and overwhelmed by the world and my place in it. Those emotions weaved themselves through this project. The longing for more emotional understanding within myself, the isolation, grief, love, sadness and hope. They’re not intended to be consumed as autobiographical facts, but as an overly dramatic, cathartic, poetic stream of my consciousness. As if you’ve opened my diary and can only read a line from each page.”

boy Track List

1. I'm Still Your Boy
2. Shakes
3. Benny
4. Close My Eyes
5. Garden Life
6. Close Enough to Feel You
7. Promises

Today’s multiple releases not only usher in a new and exciting sonic era for Luke Hemmings and his fans around the world but they lay testament to an evolving artist, who as Dork Magazine proclaimed, “bares his introverted soul, creating a love letter to nostalgia and a quest for self-discovery.”

Crwn teams up with Jason Dhakal on new single “Good Enough”

Friday, April 26, 2024

King Puentespina

The R&B singer-songwriter is the first artist featured from the Séance universe

After a long wait, King Puentespina, also known as crwn, finally unveils "Good Enough," his first single release in over a year. As anticipation mounts for his debut album set to hit shelves in May, crwn introduces his first featured artist, Jason Dhakal, signaling the start of the unfolding universe of Séance.

The track offers a glimpse into the album's dance-centric theme, showcasing crwn's iconic production style intertwined with Jason Dhakal’s introspective exploration of self-doubt. Together, they effortlessly draw listeners into a deeply personal narrative.

Crwn introduces Jason as one of his old collaborators featured on his debut album through an illustration that is reminiscent of a tarot card. The card, aptly titled "The Doubter," serves as a mirror to the central character of the song "Good Enough." When flipped, it unveils a message: "Looks inward where cracks reveal the beauty of vulnerability," inviting listeners to explore the depths of self-discovery.

The first single of the album came to life during a sit-down session in crwn's home studio. As Puentespina laid down a beat, Jason Dahkal channeled his emotions, drawing from personal experiences of betrayal to write the lyrics. The resulting intimacy of the writing perfectly complemented the track's bouncy and upbeat production, creating a head-bopping track. This exemplifies their undeniable chemistry, further solidified through collaborations like "XX:XX," released in 2020.

The rest of the collaborators are rumored to share the same deep connection, having already worked with the Manila-based producer over his notable 11-year career.

Crwn is expected to reveal details about his much-awaited album in the upcoming weeks, building anticipation among fans and critics alike. Adding to the excitement, Jason is said to be joining crwn at his album launch party this May 11th at Nokal, Makati. Secure your spot now with early bird tickets available at bit.ly/seancebycrwn

'Good Enough' is now available on all major streaming platforms.

Pinoy Plant-Based Gelato

Japanese brand Almond Koka collaborates with Gelato Manila for a line of plant-based gelato

Summer in the Philippines screams the loudest for ice cream. As the country’s heat index continues to peak, it makes the dessert more of an irresistible necessity than an occasional treat by many Filipinos.

However, here’s the scoop: many are skipping the goodness of ice cream to cool down either because they’re lactose-intolerant or their lifestyles just call for more nutritious and more ethical alternatives.

This is what Japanese food manufacturer Glico with its Almond Koka brand and homegrown business Gelato Manila aim to address, as both believe that finding equally delicious and healthy ice cream must be a “no-sweat” job for Filipinos. Hence, they formed a collaboration to come up with a line of plant-based gelato where indulgence meets health during the country’s hottest season.

Providing Filipinos deliciously healthy choices

Glico’s Almond Koka is the best-selling almond milk in Japan, boasting a superior taste and top-notch nutrition from its Vitamin E content that is 100% of the daily requirement. Now available in the Philippines, Glico is eager to provide the freedom to enjoy delectable food and drinks made with their Almond Koka products, while not compromising the health needs of Filipinos.

Whipping up some plant-based coolness with Almond Koka is Philippines’ premium gelateria, Gelato Manila. Co-founded by world-renowned gelato maker Chef Zarah Manikan, the brand is known for its expertise in creating healthier Filipino gelatos using only natural ingredients sourced from local farmers and neighboring communities.

‘PINAS-Sarap’ with Almond Koka

The Pinoy Plant-Based Gelato by Almond Koka x Gelato Manila consists of plant-based versions of three well-loved Filipino ice cream flavors, all made with quality ingredients and Almond Koka milk products. Each flavor makes a good addition to any diet while beating the record-breaking heat.

As the Philippines is home to arguably some of the world’s best mangoes, the collaboration did not miss the opportunity to include Mangga Koka in their line of gelato. It’s made with fresh ripe mangoes churned with Almond Koka Original for a vibrant-tasting healthy treat.

On the other hand, Almond Mantikilya is a roasted almond butter gelato that has a bolder and nuttier flavor from the Almond Koka Unsweetened. It truly captivates Filipinos’ fondness for sweet indulgence with a surprising twist: it’s actually low in sugar!

Nothing puts anyone in a better mood than a scoop of good chocolate gelato. So completing the trifecta is Kokoa, which has the decadence of deep and rich chocolate from the finest cocoa and Almond Koka Chocolate. This flavor not only soothes the soul but also remains a healthy way to conquer a scorching day.

The Pinoy Plant-Based Gelato by Almond Koka x Gelato Manila will be available as a sampler set of all three flavors for only P450 from April 18, 2024 until June 2024 at www.gelatomanila.com and in selected One World Deli stores.

Little Mix’s Perrie goes solo with the release of new single “Forget About Us”

Friday, April 19, 2024

Perrie

Global music superstar Perrie finally unveils her long-awaited debut solo single “Forget About Us.”

“Forget About Us” is a bittersweet uptempo pop song co-written by Perrie with Ed Sheeran and legendary songwriter David Hodges (“Because of You”—Kelly Clarkson, “A Thousand Years”—Christina Perri) and Steve Solomon.

The euphoric track is the introduction to Perrie as a solo artist, highlighting her stunning vocal talent. “I don’t want you to ever forget about us in the front seat / listening to songs that made you think about me,” she sings, in this remembrance of previous relationships.

Perrie says: “I look back on past relationships and do think happily about those times. Do I want to be there now? No. It didn’t work out that way and if it was supposed to be it would have happened. Relationships have been a huge part of my life and they've made me who I am now. I think it’s a nice sentiment to be honest about and it’s super relatable.”

The beautiful video for the song, coming soon, was directed by Jake Nava (Beyonce, Britney Spears) and shot recently in Cape Town.

The world might know her as the self-assured Perrie from Little Mix, a group that boasts 3 Brit Awards over 17.49 million albums sales globally & 29.6 billion worldwide streams. However, her experience in one of the best-selling girl groups of all time was also transformative for a younger girl who was naturally shy and unsure of her immense talents. Previously, Perrie shied away from songwriting in Little Mix as she didn't have the confidence in her abilities, but through working on her upcoming debut album, her extensive songwriting contributions surprised even her.

Across the eclectic and diverse record she had a heavy hand in creating, there are nods to her rock n roll-influenced childhood, motown, disco, country, 80s and, of course, bright, bold pop. The unifying thread is Perrie’s strong, soaring vocals that fearlessly grapple with each melody and top note. "Going into sessions as a solo artist now and being able to say what I want and I feel is just the most amazing experience. I never had the confidence to do that before, but this process has allowed me to believe in myself and explore all my different emotions and different parts of my life.”

Nearly all of the highly personal album was written and recorded at Perrie’s North London home, a place she feels the safest. Her fiancé Alex suggested they turn their unused dining room into a home studio, which he had built for her with everything she needed to lay down the tracks. “All of the content that I’ve done documenting the album has been made at home too—all the fans are commenting like, ‘Does she ever leave the house?’” Perrie laughs. As well as being embedded in her sanctuary she also explored working with producers and co-writers—the elite squad of which included artists Ed Sheeran and Raye as well as Johnny McDaid, Feli Ferraro (BTS, Normani) and Jon Bellion (Maroon 5, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber)— which allowed her to be as vulnerable and creative as possible for this debut product.

“I’m so proud of what I’ve done and created. I wanted it to be fun above anything else and showcase my singing through ballads and big vocal numbers,” she says, with her sights now set on taking her music out in front of the world and performing live with a band. “Having people singing your songs back to you is the best natural high in the world. I’m just so excited to see how fans react to my music now.” Whether sensitive or powerhouse - Perrie's distinctive vocals stand proud as she emotes her way through songs that tell her story so far.

Perrie’s “Forget About Us” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Crwn to celebrate long-awaited debut album, Séance with a full performance on May 11, 2024

Monday, April 15, 2024

Featuring a total of 11 collaborators, crwn’s first full-length album delivers a selection of sounds that span genres and movements across the globe

After 11 long years as an artist forging creative partnerships, acclaimed producer King Puentespina, known as Crwn (stylized as crwn), will be launching his long-awaited debut album, Séance, on May 11, 2024, with an intimate event that not only marks the culmination of his years of musical exploration, but also serves as the first opportunity for fans to experience the album's dynamism live with all its collaborators.

The dance music-centric album boasts an impressive roster of 11 familiar and new collaborators, showcasing the deep bonds crwn has cultivated throughout his career.

“I was conceptualizing Séance and working on a lot of songs for around 5 years after releasing Orchid in 2018,” the prolific electronic musician shares. “It was a lot of thinking, absorbing art, researching and drafting concepts and tracks into existence. The backbone and foundation of the project took time, but the actual making of the music went smoother and a lot quicker than I expected. It was like finding the ingredients took forever, but summoning the art into the world was easy.”

Puentespina adds, “The creative process with my collaborators was smooth and natural. I’d like to say we were all building worlds and stories at a comfortable pace. Everyone got to share what they wanted to share quickly and without any hiccups.”

This debut album has been years in the making, and while honing his craft, he has also played in prestigious international festivals like Wonderfruit (Thailand), Malasimbo, and Wanderland, headlined the renowned KARPOS LIVE Concert Series, and captivated audiences in big cities such as Tokyo, Singapore, and New York.

Fans can get their first taste of the album's energy with the release of the lead single on April 26th. The single, a collaboration with the first of eleven talented artists, promises a dynamic sound that sets the tone for the album.
