Filipino-Norwegian singer-songwriter Clinton Kane reminisces on his past with new song “14”

Wednesday, June 22, 2022

Clinton Kane has shared “14,” the latest song lifted from his forthcoming debut album due this summer via Columbia Records. The reflective record transports listeners to Clinton’s 14-year-old self and follows his inner monologue as he grows into adulthood. Listen HERE and watch the accompanying official video HERE

In speaking about the new song, Clinton says: “I’ve teased this song for officially a year; I wish I took another year to tease, but I would’ve gotten cancelled. Can’t believe ‘14’ is finally out!

This song breaks my heart into a million pieces every single time I listen to it. I wrote it 2 years ago when I was at my lowest with myself – doubting every single thing about me: how I grew up, where I’m from, and who I am. This song took a year to write, with 30 different choruses and verses being written to this track. I hope you find peace when you listen to this song and know that you are not alone in this world.”

Earlier this year, the 2022 Vevo DSCVR Artist to Watch embarked on a sold-out North American headline tour. The 23-date run brought the Norwegian-Filipino singer/songwriter to Chicago, Boston, New York, Nashville, and more before concluding at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre. Clinton Kane will head back out on the road this fall for select tour dates throughout Canada. Visit https://www.clintonkane.com/tour/ for tickets and more information.

Stay tuned for more from Clinton Kane coming soon!

The pilot implementation saw the electric shuttle service running between LRT-1 EDSA Station and the Manila Bay ASEANA area with designated loading/unloading points along Macapagal Boulevard until PITX. During the free ride period of 30 March to 14 May 2022, the COMET shuttle service was able to serve over 6,000 passengers.

Given the successful pilot implementation, the shuttle service route will now be extended to Circuit Makati (Ayala Malls Circuit) with LRT-1 Gil Puyat Footbridge and select areas going to Makati Central Business District and Ayala Malls Circuit as additional designated loading/unloading points.

“We’re glad to share this timely news as we see the return of more people to work or school, and an increase in economic activities. LRMC remains committed in our mission to provide a comfortable journey for commuters, and part of this is working with different transport operators towards our vision of integrated mobility. Our goal is to link LRT-1 stations to different key areas to ensure seamless connections and help people by improving their commuting experience,” LRMC Head of Operations Andrea Madrid said.

Moreover, LRT-1 Riders Club members will enjoy COMET shuttle FREE UNLIMITED RIDES starting 15 June until 30 June 2022 through the GETPASS App. Members just need to simply present the GETPASS App upon riding the COMET minibus to avail the limited-time offer.

“On June 15 we will begin to service the Makati Central Business District Route which passes thru Ayala Ave, Legaspi and Salcedo Villages! We are also providing FREE ride to all LRT-1 Riders Club members from June 15 to 30! Let's ride the Comet Electric Bus now for a safer and greener environment,” GET Philippines Managing Director Anthony Dy shared.

LRT-1 passengers can enjoy these benefits and more by signing up to become members of the LRT-1 Riders Club on the GETPASS App available for download on Google Play and App Store. To date, LRT-1 Riders Club already has close to 4,000 members.

After the free ride period, LRT-1 Riders Club members may purchase membership passes on the GETPASS App that come in the following amounts and validity of unlimited rides: Bronze – Php 50 (1 day pass), Silver – Php 150 (1 week pass), and Gold – Php 500 (1 month pass). The membership pass also provides access to ride the COMET buses in other routes within the GET Philippines network. LRT-1 Riders Club members with active passes or remaining balances on their GETPASS account can avail the free ride without charge to their purse load. Regular charge will resume on 01 July 2022.

COMET electric buses operate from Monday to Saturday, excluding holidays, with the first trips leaving PITX at 6:00am and Circuit Makati at 8:00am. Last trips are scheduled at 5:00pm (PITX) and 7:00pm (Circuit Makati).

3 Tibay Signs your Child is a Batang Matibay

While parents may have diverse views in child-rearing, they all share the same goal of raising their kids to be a Batang Matibay with Tibay ng Katawan, Isipan, and Kalooban to prepare them in their journey towards a better tomorrow.

BEAR BRAND recognizes every parent’s need for a trusted partner to raise a Batang Matibay. For over 100 years, it has been committed to building and strengthening generations of Filipino families with TIBAY ng katawan, isipan, at kalooban through the Gabay sa Tibay program, a holistic nutrition education program that educates moms on the signs of TIBAY and the importance of providing TIBAY nutrition in every glass of BEAR BRAND Fortified.

Under the Gabay sa Tibay program, moms can learn more about the TIBAY signs to look out for and work towards, to ensure a brighter future for their kids as they grow up to be a Batang Matibay:

Tibay ng Katawan

Children with Tibay ng Katawan are active and energetic in all their activities. Because of their Tibay ng Katawan, they also show strong body resistance and have an optimum height for their age.

Tibay ng Isipan

More than just the physical attributes, a Batang Matibay also has a strong mind. Their Tibay ng Isipan can be spotted in their attentiveness in class or conversations and ability to pick up lessons and instructions quickly.

Tibay ng Kalooban

Knowing how to decipher right from wrong, having accountability, and being driven and confident to reach their goals no matter how big or small are all qualities of a child with Tibay ng Kalooban.

With the Tibay Signs in mind, parents need to give their children sufficient sleep and physical activities, love and care, and essential nutrition to help their children grow up to become Batang Matibay. This is made possible through BEAR BRAND’s guidance to parents in the Gabay sa Tibay program.

“Through our Gabay sa Tibay Program in partnership with the Department of Education, we aim to reach more Filipino families and help them recognize the important signs to become Batang Matibay - one with Tibay ng Katawan, Tibay ng Isipan, and Tibay ng Kalooban,” says Kristine Goco, Group Brand Manager of BEAR BRAND Fortified.

Super Dads share how Fatherhood has Transformed their Careers

Fathers provide, protect, and persevere at home and at work. In celebration of Father’s Day, three fathers from Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, share how fatherhood has allowed them to become better versions of themselves, including at the workplace.

Martin: Evolving as a Leader and as a Father

Shopee Philippines Director Martin Yu has been leading teams to help businesses shift online through Shopee since 2017 and has seen the platform grow. As a father of two young boys, Martin has observed a common aspect between being a father and a leader that he now applies every day: the need to evolve. “When Shopee started in the Philippines, I had to be more of a coach, but as we grew and built up a larger team, I had to adjust my leadership style. I tried to foster a culture where my team is encouraged to speak up and contribute their ideas and initiatives. Now, my role is to ensure these align with our bigger business objectives.”

As a Father, Martin is mindful of how fast his sons are growing up and how he needs to similarly adapt his parenting style to keep up with their changing needs. “I encourage my children to try new things and try to be their buddy. I talk to my sons like we are friends now because they are developing their interests, and I want to encourage them to discover who they want to be in this fast-changing world. Looking ahead, I know I must adapt even more as they become teenagers and young adults.”

Martin’s ultimate hope is that his work will inspire his kids to pursue impactful careers. “My sons are still young, but I think it’s never too early to teach them the value of meaningful work that significantly impacts society and empowers them to pursue a career path that offers that opportunity.”

Michael: Building more Meaningful Relationships

Before coming to work for Shopee Xpress as a partner rider two years ago, Michael worked as an overseas Filipino worker in Taiwan, just like his father. Growing up, he found it difficult to form a solid connection with his father since their relationship mainly consisted of online video calls. When Michael became a father four years ago, he knew he wanted to be a more present figure in his daughter’s life.

As a Shopee Xpress partner rider, not only is Michael able to provide for his family’s needs, but he can also play a more active role in the lives of his two children, aged two and four. “Bago nagsimula ang pandemya, balak ko talaga bumalik sa Taiwan para masuportahan ko ang aking pamilya. Nagpapasalamat ako nang lubos na nakakauwi ako sa aking mga anak araw-araw dahil sa aking trabaho bilang Shopee Xpress rider. Dahil dito, mas nagkakaroon ng meaning ang aking buhay at trabaho.” (Before the pandemic, I planned to return to Taiwan to continue providing for my family. I am grateful that my job as a Shopee Xpress partner rider allows me to come home to my children everyday. Being able to play an active role in their lives has given my life and my job more meaning and purpose.)

One of the things Michael is most proud of in life, is being a present father in the lives of his children. “Ang pinakamalaking inspirasyon ko sa buhay ay ang aking mga anak. Ipinagmamalaki ko na natutupad ko ang aking tungkulin bilang tatay sa kanilang buhay.” (My children are my biggest inspiration in life. It is very meaningful for me that I now get to fulfill my role as a father in a better way.)

Mark: Giving His Best as a Father and a Seller

Since becoming a father, Mark has learned what it truly means to work hard and persevere. He nearly lost his daughter nine years ago to biliary atresia, a rare condition that affected her liver and required her to undergo an expensive procedure abroad. By selling customized pillows on Shopee’s platform, Mark has been able to provide for his family’s needs, including his daughter’s regular medication.

As a father and a seller, Mark said, “Nine years ago, I fought to become a father, and I continue to fight for my family every day. When I started my online business, I struggled to get orders, but I persevered and gave my all for them. Selling through Shopee has allowed my family to reach many milestones like building a home and a warehouse. Everything I do, whether as a father or a business owner, is driven by my love for my wife and daughters. Till today, I continue to give my best every day, not just for my family, but also for my customers.”

By embracing their roles as fathers, Martin, Michael, and Mark have come to understand better how to serve their customers and their teams in their respective roles as employees of Shopee and partners of Shopee Xpress. Their meaningful careers have enabled them to make a difference in the lives of others – both at home and in the workplace.

Conti's Dad Bakers: Sweet Heroes in the Kitchen and at Home

Friday, June 17, 2022

The dad bakers of homegrown food chain Conti's Bakeshop and Restaurant are a special kind of hero. They are tough and soft and sweet at the same time, both at work and at home. They are not just a part of the team that whip up the brand’s beloved cakes and pastries by the thousands daily at the Conti’s commissary.

They are fathers who work hard to provide their families with a better life while helping other families all over the country mark their special occasions, and even ordinary moments, with delightful celebrations.

Some of them have faced tough times in life but were able to succeed because of their love for family, determination, and courage.

“Kailangan ko talaga ng trabaho para ma suportahan ko ang pamilya ko, kaya ‘di na ako nag-atubili pa,” recalls Limwil Galdiano of his humble beginnings in the bakeshop founded 25 years ago and owned by the Conti sisters of Batangas. “Sabi ko sa sarili, sige, kakayanin ko ‘to.”

Limwil has been with Conti’s for almost a decade now. Back in 2013, he was already a father to a 6-year-old son. He had also been a cook for 10 years. What he did not have any experience yet at the time was baking.

“Go for a change,” he says in retrospect. “Hindi lang po sapat ‘yung nag eexcel ka sa isang bagay. Kelangan din po nating lumabas sa comfort zone natin at mag explore at sumubok ng ibang skills.”

Conti’s gave Limwil that perfect opportunity to widen his skills and broaden his horizon as a professional. Most importantly, it helped him make a better living for his family.

Taking on the challenge has paid off. Today, Limwil takes utmost satisfaction and pride with his work as a Conti’s baker because he knows that his talent and skills bring smiles to the faces of strangers.

“Kahit may pressure, kahit pagod, nakakagana pong magtrabaho pag nakikita mong nauubos lahat ng napoproduce namin at pinipilahan po ‘yung stores,” he beams. “Nakakaproud po.”

Like Limwil, fellow Conti’s dad baker Renato Sanorjo had been working in the kitchen of a fast-food chain prior to joining Conti’s. The big difference was he was very far from his family as the job was in Saudi Arabia.

“Madami talagang pagsubok na pwedeng harapin at bilang tatay,” Renato says. “Mas mahirap ‘yung kapag hindi mo kapiling ang anak at pamilya mo.”

Although financial support is important, the former OFW emphasizes the importance of being physically present to create a deeper connection with your children.

“Bilang isang haligi ng tahanan, dapat matatag ka, masipag ka, matiyaga ka para masuportahan o maibigay mo ang pangangailangan ng pamilya mo. Hindi lang materyal kundi pati ‘yung sa pisikal at emosyonal para maging maayos at maganda ang kinabukasan nila.”

These very same sentiments are shared by Edmond Alcoran, a longtime Conti’s employee who started out as assistant baker and now holds the position of Officer-in-Charge of Production. “Maraming challenges financially, emotionally, and physically,” he echoes. “So ang pinakamaganda ay kapag sa huli, nalagpasan niyo ang pagsubok sa buhay.”

One of the biggest challenges that Edmond had to surmount as a father came early this year when his third child was born prematurely. “Kakaibang pagsubok ang pinagdaanan ko,” he notes. “Pero dahil na rin sa karanasan ko sa pagiging ama ng unang dalawang anak ko, at ‘yung mga natutunan ko sa trabaho, nakaya namin ng asawa ko ang mga hamon.”

Edmond says patience and having a clear direction are very important both as a baker and as a father. “Hindi pwedeng magmadali ka. As a baker kasi, merong standard procedure. Kelangan may patience ka na sundin ‘yun. Kelangan i-manage natin lahat ‘yun para may direction. Ganun din sa pagiging tatay. Kelangan ang mahabang pasensya. Kelangan ang tibay ng loob.”

Meeting big challenges is never easy. Even tough men need all the help they can get. Fortunately for the dad bakers of Conti’s, the company’s family-oriented philosophy not only makes them grow, but it also makes them glow.

“Sa Conti’s, challenges are a means to constantly improve, to make ourselves better and make relationships tighter,” notes Angie Conti-Martinez, one of the three sisters who founded Conti’s 25 years ago. “We are happy to be part of the professional and personal journeys of our dad bakers and are proud of their achievements in the company and in their families.”

There is no perfect father, just as there is no one way to be a good father. Dads, just like cakes, come in all shapes, sizes, and parenting styles. But no matter what and who they are, dads are everyday superheroes who deserve to be celebrated on Father’s Day but every single day – with Conti’s cakes for a truly delightful celebration.

The Hammingtons Fly to Manila for First Fanmeeting

Thursday, June 16, 2022

This July is a good time for a family bonding activity as South Korea’s cutest trio is coming to Manila!

For the first time, Sam, William, and Bentley are coming to meet Filipino fans at The Hammingtons in Juanderland: Fanmeeting in Manila. The event is scheduled to take place on July 17, 2022, Sunday, 3 PM at the New Frontier Theater.

The South Korean stars rose to fame in 2016 when they joined the roster for “The Return of Superman,” a reality show featuring celebrity dads and their children. Initially, it was only Sam and William (now five years old) who appeared on the show. Bentley (now four years old) joined a year later after he was born.

The three quickly became fan favorites and eventually brought home the prestigious “Grand Prize” (locally known as “Daesang”) at the 2018 KBS Entertainment Awards along with the other cast.

Earlier this year, the family decided to step down from the show to pursue other opportunities. One of which is “Wilbengers: Suspicious Camping Commotion,” an animated superhero film starring William and Bentley, together with their dad. The family also recently launched their new variety show titled “The Hammingtons’ Dream Closet” which airs on the ENA channel.

Outside of mainstream media, the boys are busy with their very own Youtube channel, “THE WILLBEN SHOW,” which has now amassed more than 350,000 subscribers.

Despite their packed schedule, The Hammingtons are excited to come to Manila.

“This is an amazing opportunity and we are so looking forward to meeting our fans. The last few years have been really difficult due to restrictions but finally being able to have the chance to meet some of our international fans is so exciting,” shared Sam Hammington, the family patriarch.

Sam is a New Zealander-Australian comedian who gained stardom in the South Korean reality television show “Real Men.” In 2013, he won the “Best Male Newcomer” award for his amazing performance on the show.

With only a few weeks until the fanmeet, Sam shared how the Hammingtons have begun preparation.

“We are not trying to overly prepare as we want to have an authentic experience while we are there. However, we have been trying to learn some Tagalog but it is not as easy as we thought it would be.”

Sam also shared that they’re eager to try some of the delicious food recommended by the fans; most notably, “chocolate rice” or champorado in Tagalog.

When asked how the kids reacted to the news, the 44-year-old star candidly answered, “To be honest, I have told them but I don’t think they quite comprehend where we are going. They are excited to go on an airplane to another country. But when we get there I am sure they will be excited.”

As a parting message to fans, Sam had this to say: “First and foremost, thank you for supporting us in everything we do. We appreciate you all, and without you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. This is our opportunity to thank you in person and hope to meet as many of our fans as possible.”

The Hammingtons’ fanmeeting in Manila is just one of the many Asian stops lined up for the family. With WILD Group now managing their international activities, fans can look forward to seeing more of the trio in-person and on various media platforms across Southeast Asia.

Tickets will be available this Saturday via TicketNet online. Prices for the fanmeet range from PHP2,850 (Balcony) to PHP6, 500 (MVP). The Hammingtons in Juanderland: Fanmeeting in Manila is presented by CDM Entertainment.

Going Green for Good: McDonald's opens new solar-powered restaurants

Wednesday, June 15, 2022

solar-powered restaurants
The newest solar-powered McDonald’s store in Arayat, Pampanga. These solar panels will become a significant source of electricity for the restaurant, providing employees and customers with clean and renewable energy.

Quick service restaurant giant McDonald’s Philippines, majority owned and operated by its Master Franchise Holder, Chairman & Founder Dr. George T. Yang is poised to strengthen its Green & Good intiative, the company’s commitment to the environment, by scaling innovative and sustainable restaurant solutions in more of its new stores in the country.

Since 2020, McDonald’s has opened two Green & Good flagship stores in Manila and Mandaluyong to test and learn green solutions for sustainable restaurant practices. Previously, the company also conducted a pilot test in its Quezon Avenue, Quezon City and Malasiqui, Pangasinan stores to explore rooftop solar power systems.

Today, McDonald’s is now set to roll out its first batch of new stores in Arayat, Pampanga and Ligao, Albay to be solar-powered. These stores are equipped with grid-tied/on-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) systems connected to the local utility grid and is a cost-effective option to supplement energy requirements. With potentially more than 70,000 KWH in estimated annual power generation, equivalent to approximately less 17,000 kg of CO2 emissions. With the solar rooftop being its significant source of electricity, McDonald’s will be able to power these stores with clean and renewable energy, enhancing its other sustainable solutions for its restaurants.

“McDonald's Philippines is embarking on our journey towards becoming a better McDonald's for the environment. We recognize the role we play and the impact we can make by committing to learn and scale initiatives that reduce waste and emissions”, shared McDonald’s Philippines President & CEO Kenneth S. Yang. “Our goal is for our stores to become sustainable developments that feature sustainable restaurant solutions that enable waste reduction, energy conservation, upcycling, and inclusive dining solutions.”

Similar to its existing branches in U.N. Del Pilar Manila and Shaw Wack-Wack Mandaluyong, the new stores will also feature solar lamp posts, photo and motion sensors, and high-performance glass film as part of its utility efficiency solutions, as well as eco-friendly air conditioning for less energy consumption. Green building solutions such as light gauge steel frames, ecopavers/panels and concrete fiber are incorporated as well. Meanwhile, sustainable packaging, proper waste disposal, and active mobility continue to be part of Green & Good stores’ upcycling and inclusive dining experiences.

This year, the company projects to further expand its commitment to the environment by opening more new Green & Good flagship stores in the country and convert more of its existing stores to use solar power energy.
