We Are Imaginary Releases Reflective Self-Titled Album

Friday, January 16, 2026

After years of evolving their sound and identity, Filipino indie rock band We Are Imaginary returns with a release that feels deeply personal and quietly confident. The band has officially dropped their self-titled third album, now available on all major streaming and digital music platforms worldwide via indie label floppydisks.

Rather than chasing trends or dramatic reinvention, the album feels like a moment of reflection. It captures a band fully aware of who they are after nearly two decades of making music together and unafraid to sit with uncertainty, vulnerability, and emotional nuance.

A Record Rooted in Identity and Emotional Honesty

At its core, We Are Imaginary explores themes of identity, emotional reckoning, and acceptance. The album unfolds like an internal conversation, slowly moving from doubt and tension toward moments of clarity and calm. According to frontman Ahmad Tanji, the record does not aim to neatly resolve every feeling it raises.

Instead, the nine-track release leans into the idea that not all experiences need closure. Some emotions simply exist, and this album gives them space to breathe. That approach makes the record feel relatable and human, especially for listeners navigating their own personal transitions.

Dreamy Guitars Meet Shoegaze and Noise-Pop

Sonically, the album sits comfortably in dreamy guitar-rock territory, drawing from shoegaze and noise-pop influences. Warm, fuzzy textures drift in and out, often pulling the listener into a sense of calm before erupting into heavier moments of angst and tension.

There is a careful balance at play. Soft, hushed passages are followed by surging intensity, while vulnerability exists alongside restraint. Nothing feels rushed or overworked. Each song unfolds patiently, allowing the emotions to land naturally.

This measured pacing reflects a band that no longer feels the need to prove itself. The result is a cohesive and confident record that values atmosphere and storytelling over instant impact.

A Collaborative Process Built on Trust

The album was produced by Joey Santos of Love One Another and Ahmad Tanji, and recorded by Angee Rozul and Santos at Love One Another Studio. Santos also handled the mixing, while mastering duties were done by Adam Haggar at Mount Olympia Mastering.

Tanji describes the process as one rooted in trust, something that only comes from years of collaboration.

“This collection also feels more cohesive,” he shares. “There’s a sense of comfort and confidence when we started laying down our parts. I guess that comes with growing with the band for 17 years and trusting the people you work with.”

That sense of ease is audible throughout the album. Nothing feels forced, and each track sounds like it belongs exactly where it is.

Leaning Into a More Nostalgic Sound

One of the defining elements of the album is its sonic direction. Tanji credits Angee Rozul for understanding the band’s taste and allowing them to explore a more nostalgic sound.

“Angee Rozul worked with our taste and style perfectly as our recording engineer, letting us lean towards a more ‘90s sound this time around,” Tanji explains. “While Joey gave each song a massive and dynamic mix.”

The team exchanged multiple drafts per song, slowly stripping each track down to its most essential elements. The goal was not complexity, but clarity. Each arrangement was refined to best serve the story being told.

An Album Meant to Be Heard in One Sitting

We Are Imaginary is designed as a complete listening experience. Its sequencing, subtle transitions, and quiet moments create a gradual emotional arc that rewards attentive listening.

This is the kind of album best experienced in one sitting, whether on vinyl, through quality speakers, or with a good pair of headphones. The quiet details matter, and the emotional payoff builds slowly as each track leads into the next.

For listeners who appreciate albums as a full body of work rather than a collection of singles, this release offers a deeply satisfying experience.

A Confident Snapshot of Who They Are Today

With this self-titled album, We Are Imaginary presents a clear and honest portrait of who they are at this stage in their journey. The band sounds assured, reflective, and fully at ease with the space they occupy in the local indie scene.

There is no rush, no grand statement, and no unnecessary noise. Just a band leaning into its strengths and trusting the years that shaped it.

Fans can also look forward to a vinyl release via Eikon Records, expected sometime in the first quarter of the year. Pre-orders are already available for those who want to experience the album in its most immersive form.

Sugar Dolls Inc. PH Brings Holiday Joy to 300 Children in San Mateo, Rizal

Wednesday, January 14, 2026

For many Filipino children, the holidays are about togetherness, laughter, and small moments that make them feel seen. In San Mateo, Rizal, more than 300 children from underprivileged communities experienced exactly that, thanks to a heart-led initiative by local beauty brand Sugar Dolls Inc. PH.

Partnering with the Shunammite Ministry Group and JHOW Christian Church, the brand organized a festive gift-giving drive that transformed an ordinary afternoon into a meaningful celebration of care, community, and compassion. Guided by Sugar Dolls’ belief that beauty goes beyond appearance, the initiative focused on something deeper: making children feel valued, remembered, and celebrated during the holiday season.

When Beauty Brands Choose Purpose Over Promotion

In recent years, Filipino consumers have become more discerning about the brands they support. Purpose-driven initiatives, especially those rooted in genuine community impact, are no longer optional. They are expected.

Sugar Dolls Inc. PH has consistently embraced this shift by using its platform to give back. This gift-giving drive reflects the brand’s philosophy that beauty can be a powerful force for good when it uplifts lives and strengthens communities.

Rather than centering the event on products or promotions, the focus remained firmly on the children and the joy of shared experiences. It was a reminder that meaningful brand impact often happens far from billboards and social media feeds.

A Day Filled With Laughter, Games, and Giving

The basketball court in San Mateo quickly turned into a lively celebration space as the program kicked off with live performances and a clown show. Laughter echoed through the venue as children gathered, excited and curious about what the day would bring.

The energy built steadily until the highlight of the afternoon: the gift distribution. In total, more than 760 loot bags and gifts were handed out, along with 300 packed meals prepared for the children. Each item was a small but powerful gesture, offering both practical support and emotional warmth.

For many of the kids, it was not just about receiving gifts. It was about feeling included in a moment designed especially for them.

Celebrities and Influencers Show Up for the Kids

Adding to the excitement was the presence of familiar faces who took time out of their busy schedules to support the cause. Ashley Ortega, alumna of Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition, personally joined the activity, spending time with the children and helping distribute gifts.

She was joined by fellow celebrities and online influencers Ralph Malibunas, Jan Silva, Mark Cruz, Kate Jalipa, Juliana Villafuerte, Neron Mendiola, and RJ Perkins. Instead of simply making appearances, they engaged with the kids, shared laughs, and helped create memories that will likely last long after the holidays.

Their involvement highlighted how public figures can use their visibility to amplify positive initiatives and inspire others to participate in community efforts.

The People Behind the Initiative

At the heart of the program was Ms. Chardy Baldoza, also known as Cha Canicosa, who served as the event organizer and Marketing Director. Working closely with Sugar Dolls Inc. PH, she helped bring the vision to life through careful planning and collaboration.

The initiative was made possible through the combined efforts of the Core Management Team, including Ana Lusong, Hazelyn Perez, Carlo Villanueva, Pastor Vhern, and Ms. LA Marquez. Their coordination ensured that every aspect of the event ran smoothly, from logistics to on-ground execution.

This kind of collaboration reflects a strong model for community outreach, where brands, faith-based organizations, and individuals work together toward a shared goal.

Gift-giving drives are common during the holidays, but what sets initiatives like this apart is intention. Sugar Dolls Inc. PH did not approach the activity as a one-time gesture. Instead, it aligned with the brand’s broader commitment to strengthening community ties and encouraging kindness beyond a single season.

For businesses, especially local brands, community engagement builds trust and authenticity. For communities, it creates moments of dignity and connection. For children, it sends a powerful message: you matter.

In a country where bayanihan remains a deeply held value, efforts like this resonate strongly. They remind us that impact does not always require grand gestures. Sometimes, it begins with showing up.

A Beautiful Impact That Lasts Beyond the Holidays

As the celebration came to a close, the gifts were opened, the meals shared, and the laughter slowly faded into contented smiles. What remained was a collective sense of warmth and connection.

For Sugar Dolls Inc. PH, the event reaffirmed its vision of beauty as something inclusive, compassionate, and purposeful. By choosing to invest in children and communities, the brand demonstrated that the most meaningful kind of beauty is the one that creates positive change.

In the end, the true takeaway was simple yet powerful. When brands lead with heart, their impact becomes something far more lasting than any product. It becomes a story of care, generosity, and shared humanity.

McDonald’s PH Launches P99 Sulit-Busog Meals for 2026

Monday, January 12, 2026

For many Filipinos, starting the year strong means stretching every peso while still staying energized for long workdays, side hustles, and family responsibilities. McDonald’s Philippines clearly understands this reality as it welcomes 2026 with a menu offering designed for those who always give a little extra. Enter the McSavers Sulit-Busog Crispy Chicken Fillet Meals, priced at just P99 and served with extra rice.

It is a simple idea with a big impact. More food, more flavor, and more value for people who need a satisfying meal without spending beyond their budget.

Sulit-Busog Meals

Food in the Philippines is rarely just about hunger. It is about comfort, reward, and fuel for everyday wins. Whether you are a breadwinner making sure everyone at home is taken care of, a student juggling classes and part-time work, or a young professional chasing goals, a filling and affordable meal goes a long way.

McDonald’s taps into this mindset with its Sulit-Busog concept. These meals are designed to be hearty, accessible, and reliable. At P99, they respond directly to rising daily expenses while still delivering the taste McDo fans expect.

Ada Almendras-Lazaro, Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s Philippines, shared that the campaign is rooted in a familiar Filipino trait. Filipinos naturally go the extra mile, whether at work or in caring for loved ones. The McSavers Sulit-Busog Meals are meant to reflect that same spirit by offering extra fill, satisfaction, and affordability.

What’s Inside the P99 McSavers Sulit-Busog Meals

The McSavers Sulit-Busog lineup centers on one of McDonald’s most reliable comfort food options, the Crispy Chicken Fillet. This is not just one version, but a trio of flavors that lets customers switch things up depending on their mood.

Original Crispy Chicken Fillet

This classic option keeps things simple and familiar. A crispy chicken fillet paired with McDonald’s signature gravy delivers that comforting, no-fail taste many Filipinos grew up with.

Crispy Chicken Fillet Ala King

For those who want something richer, the Ala King version comes with a creamy sauce that adds depth and indulgence to every bite. It is a favorite for diners who enjoy a more savory, comforting flavor profile.

Golden Curry Fillet

One of the more recent additions, the Golden Curry Fillet brings a creamy sauce with a gentle balance of sweetness and spice. It is perfect for customers who want something a little different without straying too far from familiar flavors.

All Sulit-Busog meals come with extra rice and a regular drink, making the P99 price point even more sulit.

Extra Rice, Extra Value, Extra Motivation

Rice is non-negotiable for most Filipino meals, especially when it comes to fried or saucy dishes. By including extra rice as standard, McDonald’s makes sure customers leave feeling full and satisfied.

This approach also aligns with current food trends in the Philippines. Consumers are prioritizing value-for-money meals that feel complete, especially during weekdays when meals often double as quick breaks between responsibilities.

With the Sulit-Busog Meals, McDonald’s positions itself as a go-to option for affordable daily meals, not just an occasional treat.

Accessibility Anytime, Anywhere

Another reason the McSavers Sulit-Busog Meals resonate with Filipinos is their availability. These meals can be ordered through dine-in, take-out, drive-thru, and delivery.

This flexibility matters for people with packed schedules. Whether you are grabbing lunch between meetings, picking up dinner on the way home, or ordering late after a long day, the Sulit-Busog Meals fit easily into everyday routines.

A Smart Start to 2026

As 2026 begins, many Filipinos are setting goals that involve working harder, saving more, and staying consistent. Small choices, like where to eat and how much to spend, play a role in sustaining that momentum.

By offering P99 meals that are both filling and flavorful, McDonald’s Philippines supports these everyday efforts. It is a reminder that going the extra mile does not always have to cost more.

Fast food in the Philippines is evolving. Customers now look beyond taste and consider portion size, price, and convenience. Brands that recognize these priorities tend to earn stronger loyalty.

The McSavers Sulit-Busog Meals reflect an understanding of Filipino lifestyles today. They are practical, comforting, and accessible. For many, that combination makes all the difference.

Sexbomb Girls and IV of Spades Reunite in Sold-Out SM MOA Arena Concerts

Tuesday, December 23, 2025

Just when fans thought 2026 was winding down quietly, the SM Mall of Asia Arena delivered a plot twist no one saw coming. In a powerful celebration of Original Pilipino Music, two iconic acts from different generations returned to the stage and sold out the country’s premier indoor venue back to back.

The long-awaited reunion of Sexbomb Girls and the highly anticipated comeback of IV of Spades turned the MOA Arena into a space filled with nostalgia, emotion, and pure Filipino musical pride. More than just concerts, these shows felt like cultural moments that reminded fans why OPM continues to thrive across eras.

Sexbomb Girls’ First-Ever MOA Arena Show Feels Like a Time Capsule

For many Filipinos, the Sexbomb Girls are not just performers. They are a core memory.

When the iconic all-female group finally took the SM MOA Arena stage for the first time, it felt like a homecoming years in the making. Their concert, aptly titled “Get, Get, Aw!”, drew a sold-out crowd made up of longtime fans who proudly call themselves “pinalaki ng Sexbomb.”

From the moment the music started, the energy inside the arena shifted. Familiar beats sparked instant reactions. Fans danced, sang, and cheered as if transported back to the early 2000s, when barangay dance contests, noontime shows, and pop anthems ruled daily life.

A Celebration of Confidence, Dance, and Filipino Pop Culture

Now composed of 17 members, the Sexbomb Girls filled the massive arena with synchronized choreography and timeless hits that defined an era. Their performance was more than a nostalgic throwback. It was a reminder of how their music championed self-expression and confidence at a time when Filipino pop culture was rapidly evolving.

By honoring the roots of grassroots dance culture and the joy of moving freely, the concert resonated not just with millennials, but also with younger fans experiencing Sexbomb’s music live for the first time. The message was clear. Music has the power to connect generations without losing its soul.

IV of Spades Reunite After Seven Years to a Sea of Devoted Fans

If Sexbomb’s return felt like a joyful reunion, IV of Spades’ comeback was deeply emotional.

The SM MOA Arena closed the year on a high with “IV of Spades Live at the MOA Arena,” a two-day concert held from December 12 to 13. After seven years apart, the band’s reunion drew a sold-out crowd on opening night, with fans eager to witness a chapter they once thought was over.

Familiar Songs, New Music, and an Intimate Atmosphere

Known for their creative visuals and genre-bending sound, IV of Spades transformed the arena into an immersive experience. Fans were treated to beloved tracks such as “Mundo,” “Sentimental,” “Konsensya,” “Aura,” and “Ilaw sa Daan,” alongside surprises that kept the energy unpredictable and exciting.

Despite the scale of the venue, the concert felt surprisingly personal. The band shared candid moments with the audience, including a lighthearted Tekken match and heartfelt exchanges that reflected how far they had come, both individually and as a group finding their way back together.

For many fans, it was not just about hearing the songs live again. It was about closure, growth, and the joy of seeing artists evolve without losing their identity.

These back-to-back sold-out shows highlighted something important about the local music scene. Filipino audiences are deeply loyal, emotionally invested, and eager to support artists who tell authentic stories.

Sexbomb Girls reminded fans of the joy and confidence that defined a generation. IV of Spades showed that even after time apart, creativity and connection can still flourish. Together, their concerts represented the full spectrum of OPM, from pop dance anthems to alternative rock storytelling.

For younger artists and fans, these reunions also served as proof that Filipino music has staying power. Trends may change, but songs that resonate emotionally continue to find their place on stage.

SM MOA Arena Continues to Be the Home of OPM Milestones

With 13 years as a premier large-scale venue, the SM Mall of Asia Arena has consistently been the stage where musical legacies are celebrated and new ones begin. From international superstars to homegrown icons, it remains a trusted space for unforgettable live experiences.

By hosting these landmark reunions, the arena reaffirmed its role in shaping the future of live entertainment in the Philippines. As a new year approaches, fans can expect more moments that bring people together through music, memory, and shared cultural pride.

“Sungit”: Any Name’s Okay Celebrates the Sweet Imperfections of Real Love in New Single

Wednesday, November 19, 2025

When was the last time you and your partner argued over something tiny—only to end up laughing about it minutes later? Those everyday “asaran,” tampuhan moments, and bursts of lambing are exactly what Any Name’s Okay captures in their newest single, “Sungit.” For many Filipinos, this familiar cycle feels like home and the band turns it into a warm, musical reminder that love doesn’t need to be perfect to feel true.

Set to be part of the group’s first full-length album launching in 2026, “Sungit” brings a fresh alt-pop/rock energy wrapped in heart-tugging honesty, something longtime fans will instantly recognize.

A Playful Spin on a Very Filipino Feeling

According to the five-member group, the song started with a simple, everyday word we all use sungit and evolved into a reflection of what mature love really looks like.

The band shared that the track explores “all the complex feelings that surround such a common Filipino word… It’s a snapshot of a love that isn’t perfect, but is comforting in its realness.” They emphasized that their music always comes from “a youthful, hopeful heart,” and “Sungit” beautifully carries that trademark sincerity.

Celebrating the Pokes, Paasars, and Petty Arguments That Make Love Real

“Sungit” is the kind of song that makes you smile because you’ve lived it. It highlights how:
  • Small misunderstandings don’t make a relationship weak, they make it alive
  • Lovers can jump from bickering one moment to bursting into laughter the next
  • Even “sungitan” can feel sweet when you know you’re safe with each other

The song gently reminds listeners that love hides and grows in those tiny cracks, those imperfect, messy, human moments that make relationships feel authentic.

With lyrics that balance playfulness and tenderness, “Sungit” feels like a warm hug from someone who knows you inside out… even the sungit side.
A New Chapter for Any Name’s Okay

“Sungit” marks an exciting buildup to the band’s first-ever full-length album dropping in 2026. For a group known for heartfelt lyricism and refreshing soundscapes, this single feels like the beginning of an even more emotionally rich era.

Fans can expect more stories, more feelings, and more melodies that hit close to home.

Where to Listen

You can now stream “Sungit” on all major streaming platforms.

Follow Any Name’s Okay on their social media pages for the latest updates, show announcements, and sneak peeks of their upcoming album.

If you’ve ever been “masungit” with someone you love or been on the receiving end, you’ll feel instantly seen by this track. It’s charming, comforting, and incredibly Filipino at its core. Definitely worth adding to your “good vibes” playlist.

Gab Cabangon Releases Debut Single Pieces

Friday, September 26, 2025

Gab Cabangon Debuts as Solo Artist with Heartfelt Single “Pieces”

After years of performing in the local gig scene, Filipino singer-songwriter Gab Cabangon is officially stepping into the spotlight with the release of his debut single “Pieces.” The acoustic indie pop track is now available on all digital music platforms worldwide and marks his first official release as a solo artist.

A Song for Healing and Hope

“Pieces” carries an empowering message for anyone navigating grief, depression, or uncertainty. Gab describes it as his personal “It’s Okay Not to Be Okay” anthem—an invitation to embrace vulnerability while holding on to the promise of brighter days.

“I want this song to be the soundtrack for people to allow themselves to go through the process of sadness and grief without feeling judged and without feeling alone,” Gab shares. He adds that acknowledging pain is part of the journey toward healing, and that there’s always someone—or something—that can help us rise again.

From Personal Gift to Shared Anthem

Originally written during the pandemic as an anniversary gift for his then-girlfriend (now wife), “Pieces” grew into something much bigger. When Gab began performing it at livestreams and gigs, the song resonated deeply with listeners, often moving audiences to tears. That reaction convinced him to record the track and share it with a wider audience.

“It also helps that I’m in a place right now where I could really invest in my music and do it at a certain level that I can be proud of,” Gab reflects. He credits his collaborators for helping shape the final product, saying they made him not just a better musician but also a better storyteller.

Collaboration and Craftsmanship

To bring the song to life, Gab teamed up with his longtime friend and music director David Lina, who infused the track with warm, tender arrangements. The song was then mixed and mastered by Shadiel “Shad” Chan and Jan Fuertez, whose expertise added polish while preserving the emotional rawness of the piece.

With its lush acoustic textures and heartfelt delivery, “Pieces” has the cinematic quality of a film soundtrack, reflecting Gab’s vision of music that goes beyond entertainment and becomes part of life’s stories.

A New Chapter for Gab Cabangon

For Gab, “Pieces” represents a turning point. Having performed for years both solo and with his former band K.E., he admits he once doubted whether he should pursue recording as a solo artist. But late last year, he made the conscious decision to follow that path.

“For the longest time, I was very hesitant to release new music as a solo artist,” he admits. “At first, I thought I would be content just being a gigging artist. But the hunger and desire to record and release new music never left me.”

With this release, Gab introduces himself as a solo act who will explore themes of love, healing, and resilience. “Not to give away too much, but I’d like to think that it’s the opening song to a letter that I’m writing for the people who are trying to learn to love again,” he hints.

With its honesty and warmth, “Pieces” feels like more than just a debut single—it’s a heartfelt soundtrack for anyone searching for comfort and courage in difficult times. Whether you’re a longtime supporter of OPM or just discovering Gab Cabangon, this release is worth adding to your playlist.

Stream “Pieces” now on Spotify, Apple Music, or your favorite digital music platform and follow Gab’s journey as he shares more stories through his songs.

How PR Transforms The #1 Storytelling Mistake Brands Make

Monday, August 25, 2025

Millions of brands fight to own the narrative every day, but not all of them succeed. Their mistake? They put themselves at the center of the story instead of their audience.

In the Philippines, many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) make the same storytelling flaw. Your customers want to be the hero, and your role is to guide, support, and inspire them.

When you take this approach in storytelling, you can turn casual buyers into loyal advocates. Here’s how you can produce stories that grab attention and retain connections.

The #1 Brand Storytelling Mistake: Making It All About You

When businesses talk only about their achievements, products, or milestones without connecting to their audience’s needs or values, they unintentionally push people away.

For example:

● Too much self-promotion: “We’ve been in business for 20 years!” Good to know, but why should customers care?

● Overly technical jargon: “Our proprietary solution uses next-gen algorithms to optimize workflow…” Sounds smart, but confusing.

● No emotional hook: “Buy now before the promo ends.” Where’s the connection?

Effective brand storytelling is about making your customer the protagonist while positioning your brand as the dependable guide who helps them reach victory.

Why This Mistake Hurts Your Business

When your story is too focused on yourself, your audience quickly tunes out. People will just scroll past you if your content doesn’t speak to their needs. You also lose the emotional connection that comes from shared values and empathy, leaving your message sounding more like a hard sell than a genuine story.

In our current ad-ridden digital landscape, nothing drives people away faster than sounding too salesy. In fact, Edelman’s Trust Barometer found that 81% of consumers need to trust a brand before making a purchase. Building that trust requires not only self-promotion, but also relevance, empathy, and authenticity.

What Good PR Storytelling Looks Like

Good PR storytelling in the Philippines banks on relationships and community ties. These traits are important in crafting your narrative:

  • Audience-focused: Stories begin with the customer’s perspective.
  • Authentic and relatable: Draw from real experiences, not just marketing copy.
  • Value-driven: Share how your brand improves lives, not just products.
  • Culturally aware: Tap into Filipino values like bayanihan (community spirit) or pakikisama (harmony).

For example, instead of “We launched a new eco-friendly packaging,” a PR agency in the Philippines can frame it as:

“A small bakery in Quezon City helped reduce 500 kg of plastic waste in their barangay. Here’s how your own business can do it too.”

This shifts the story from self-promotion to impact and community value.

How a PR Agency Can Help You Fix This Mistake

A seasoned PR agency that understands both traditional and digital media can help transform your storytelling by:

1. Identifying Your Core Narrative

PR professionals know how to extract the most relatable parts of your brand’s journey. They’ll help you frame stories around your mission, customer successes, and cultural touchpoints that resonate in the local market.

2. Finding the Right Platforms

A good story falls flat if no one hears it. PR agencies use their media connections in print, TV, radio, and online to amplify your story to the right audiences. Your content can shine in a lifestyle magazine in Manila or a community Facebook group in Cebu.

3. Ensuring Consistent Messaging

In integrated marketing communications (IMC), consistency builds credibility. PR agencies align your press releases, social media posts, interviews, and blog articles so your audience hears the same values and voice everywhere.

4. Using Data to Shape Stories

With media monitoring and sentiment analysis, PR pros can track which stories resonate and adjust messaging accordingly. This avoids wasted effort on narratives that don’t land.

5. Turning Everyday Moments into PR Wins

A small act can become a full-fledged brand story if packaged well. Experienced PR agencies know how to spot and amplify these moments.

Why Good PR Is Essential for Success

In the Philippines, word-of-mouth still drives much of purchasing behavior, which makes public relations about publicity and credibility. Good PR ensures you’re telling the right stories to the right people, building trust and loyalty instead of pushing empty sales, and positioning your brand as authentic, relevant, and socially aware.

Without that expertise, even well-meaning efforts can fall flat or, worse, harm your reputation

Muri and Shigge Drop Cross-Cultural Dance EP “SETSUNA” Celebrating the Beauty of Impermanence

Tuesday, August 12, 2025

When Filipino Soul Meets Japanese Beats

What happens when a Filipino indie pop/soul artist teams up with a Japanese electronic producer? You get SETSUNA — a fresh, genre-bending EP that captures the fleeting beauty of life’s moments while making you want to move to the beat.

Released by Muri in collaboration with Shigge, this 4-track record blends pop, soul, and intricate dance production, offering a unique soundscape that’s both emotional and electrifying. The title “SETSUNA” comes from the Japanese word for “instant,” perfectly capturing the project’s theme: impermanence in a fast-paced world.

A Sonic Journey Through Fleeting Moments

Created remotely between Manila, Tokyo, and London, the EP merges cultural influences and styles in a seamless, hypnotic way:

Afternoon – Starts breezy and chill, then suddenly shifts into an adrenaline-pumping drum n’ bass groove.

Bad News – Infectious grooves and pulsing beats that feel freeing and vibrant.

Midnight Calls – An after-hours anthem with late-night energy and smooth sophistication.

Sayaw – A bilingual dance floor delight mixing English and Filipino lyrics, soulful melodies, and heavy bass.

The result? A record that’s as unpredictable as life itself — playful yet profound.

Behind the Collaboration

Muri admits the project wasn’t always smooth sailing. Working across different countries and styles meant navigating unfamiliar creative territory.

“The first song we did together felt uncomfortable at first because it was out of our comfort zone,” Muri shares. “But in the end, that uncertainty made it exciting. We didn’t know how it would turn out, but we both loved what we created.”

This willingness to experiment is exactly what gives SETSUNA its charm — it’s fearless, boundary-pushing, and alive with personality.

Why It Matters to OPM Fans

Filipino listeners will love how “Sayaw” injects Pinoy flavor into a global collaboration, proving OPM can hold its own on the world stage. In an era where artists can collaborate across continents without leaving their home studios, SETSUNA is a prime example of music’s power to transcend borders.

If you’re craving music that makes you dance while also making you reflect, add SETSUNA to your playlist. Whether you’re chilling at home or out for the night, Muri and Shigge’s cross-cultural beats will keep you hitting replay.
