PayPal opens operations site in PH

PayPal, a global leader in online payment solutions, recently inaugurated its operations site in Alabang after the announcement of its office opening earlier this year. The Alabang hub is the company’s most extensive and first consolidated operations site in the country.

PayPal expands to serve more

To date, PayPal has hired over 700 people for its new office. The company has the intention, too, of enlisting 1,000 more employees by the end of 2020. The management looks forward to filling critical roles in customer support, voice and non-voice processes, and risk management to cater to English-speaking customers worldwide. The growing need for crucial business functions and a large pool of available local talent push the company to increase its initial 1,000 hires through 2021.

In a statement, PayPal Global Customer Services Country Lead and Senior Director John Nicholls said that “Filipinos are renowned not only for their outstanding command of the English language but also for their customer service expertise. The local talents are also known for their hard work, resourcefulness, and openness to new experiences. This makes Filipino talents as perfect fit when it comes to the values PayPal adheres to." Furthermore, the company's decision to set up its global operations center in Alabang reinforces the country's reputation as a hotbed for talent.

There are now about 286 million active PayPal account holders in over 200 markets. This makes the task of working for PayPal as no easy one. All prospective employees in the Alabang site can expect to undergo robust product and cultural training. Such training will equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to better understand PayPal customers and the intricacies of the many international markets the company serves.

An office designed for millennials

In 2020, it is estimated that at least half of the global workforce will come from the millennial generation. Millennial is generally categized as aged 20 and 30s.

In the Philippines, millennials make up a significant part of the country's total population. A total of 43.9 percent from the work force in the country are in the millennial bracket. This translate to millennials playing a pivotal role in building a future for organizations, both foreign and local.

As an organization, PayPal champions innovation, collaboration, inclusion, and wellness—which are themes that resonate with Filipinos, particularly millennials. This is in full display at the company's office in Alabang.

The new office sports a modern cafeteria serving organic food that easily converts into a functioning zone complete with built-in LED screens and state-of-the-art sound systems for events. To encourage teamwork and connectivity among employees, the spacious site also features open collaboration zones and WiFi on all floors. The Alabang office also has rest areas, a karaoke room, and a games area.

“Our facilities are meant to embody PayPal’s work-culture philosophy. The company values innovation, collaboration, inclusion, and wellness. By nurturing these values in our office spaces, we provide our teams with the very best in coaching, mentorship, and leadership, so they grow personally and professionally in their careers,” Nicholls explained.
