World Vision launches emergency response to children and families affected by Super Typhoon Karding

In the aftermath of Super Typhoon Karding (international name Noru), which affected over 640,963 individuals across the Philippines, World Vision mobilizes its responding teams to the landfall sites and the hardest-hit provinces of Aurora and Quezon.




The Super Typhoon Karding has recently affected seven regions in the country, namely Regions 1, 2, 3, and 5, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and CAR.

Among the priority needs identified and expressed by the typhoon-stricken population are food, emergency shelter support, livelihood, and assistance for learning continuity children. A lot of schools in the area have been damaged and rendered not safe for teachers and students to hold classes. The agricultural provinces of Aurora, Quezon including towns Nakar and Burdeos, and other areas in Central Luzon have also experienced massive flooding due to the typhoon, damaging major crops including rice which could been harvested this month of October.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the communities affected by Typhoon Karding. World Vision is committed to support and complement the ongoing efforts of the government and the humanitarian community, especially in ensuring the well-being of children and the most vulnerable. Let us also continue to pray for our responding staff, for wisdom and protection as they engage on-ground,” shares Mr. Rommel V. Fuerte, World Vision National Director in the Philippines.

World Vision’s emergency response in Aurora and Quezon aims to provide for the immediate life-saving needs of more than 2,000 families through provision of emergency shelter and non-food items, including family blankets, mosquito nets and mats. According to vocalist/guitarist Jaeson Felismino, the lyrics of “Sa Ulan” was inspired by a pivotal moment in his life and it’s his way of expressing gratitude to that special someone who stayed and lifted him up on days when he felt down or unworthy of love.

“It’s comforting to have someone encourage you to be the best version of yourself,” Felismino reveals. “This song is my way of thanking that person, for inspiring me to aim for greater heights, and to believe in what I’m capable of as an individual, and as an artist.”

Veering away from the pop-rock grit of their previous releases, “Sa Ulan” weaves in effortlessly a more subdued musical direction while retaining the melodic smarts that defined some of their biggest hits to date. With acoustic guitars, a piano, and a cajon as part of the ensemble, the stripped-down ditty displays the band’s knack for simplicity and detail in the most riveting way possible.

“We had a lot of fun doing it,” shares Felismino. “It took us five days to wrap up the recording, but with the guidance of Isagani Palabyab, our producer, we were able to make gold out of something spare and unassuming.”

On the stripped-down ballad, the talented newcomer asks big questions about life’s purpose and her conflicting sense of direction. But while doing the things that she loves the most comes with existential baggage, LOIR recognizes the need to work on herself and apologize for her misgivings. 

“I’ve made some decisions in the past that I’m not happy about,” says the budding young artist. “This song is my way of closing that chapter in life, and hoping that I’ve made my parents proud as I welcome change with positivity, dreams, and love. I’m more than inspired to do well in my chosen craft.”

Starting out slow and assured with just a piano to accompany LOIR’s lush, dreamy vocals, “MAMA” further progresses into an emotional epiphany and peels its layers with a hopeful note that “she is still here and is going to hold to whatever is left”—her family and dreams, included.

The song is written and arranged by LOIR herself, with production by frequent collaborators HavoMusic and Goodson. 

“I started working on the instrumentals for MAMA before I asked sir Havomusic and Goodson to be involved in the production work,” shares LOIR. “While I developed the structure and melody for this particular track, both of them added a more emotional touch to the sonic palette. The final product maintains the rawness of the original, but it’s also more vulnerable and powerful to an extent.”

Before signing up with Sony Music Entertainment, LOIR has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the local hip-hop/R&B scene, including Gloc-9 on socio-realist gems “SANIB and “OKA” and Guddhist Gunatita’s on smash single “DALAMPASIGAN.” LOIR is also part of Asintada Management and Production Inc.—home of artists such as Gloc-9 and Shanti Dope. To date, she has amassed more than four million streams on YouTube and Spotify combined.
