Araneta City opens New Frontier Theater for a fun COVID pediatric vaccination drive

Monday, February 21, 2022

COVID pediatric vaccination drive

The City of Firsts hosted on Sunday, February 20, Quezon City's inoculation of almost 3,000 kids in a vibrant and entertaining vaccination drive at the New Frontier Theater.

The Araneta Group, through the arrangements of J. Amado Araneta Foundation (JAAF), has allowed the city government to use the historic theater for free to assist in the faster rollout of COVID-19 vaccines for minors.

The vaccination site was festooned with balloons and other festive decors to amuse the vaccinees ages 5 to 11 years old. Mascots and balloon twisters provided entertainment to the children, and giveaways were distributed as a reward for a 'jab' well done.

"With Araneta City being a center of leisure and entertainment, we want to incorporate this to the experience of our young vaccinees. This way, they will be less anxious and stressed before and after they receive their COVID jabs," according to Marjorie Go, AVP for Marketing of Araneta City.

To secure the observance of safety and health protocols, marshalls were deployed in the area to implement proper social distancing. Upon entry to the theater, vaccinees and their guardians underwent temperature checks and other sanitation procedures.

Through JAAF, the Araneta Group also partnered with the city government in administering COVID vaccines for adults and free RT-PCR tests for the general public. Since the pandemic hit the country in 2020, the company has put in place safety protocols to keep its businesses safe for its employees and customers with its slogan “Safety First at the City of Firsts”.

It’s time to declutter and make room for your new goals

Hello, 2022!

Write down your to-do list

If you’ve got a lot on your plate, don’t attempt to keep your to-do list in your brain—this will only overwhelm and stress you out. Instead, stay on track with a planner. This Undated Planner from National Bookstore, perfect for fans of the hit TV show Friends, features undated pages and blank weekly pages on which you can jot down your checklists and more.

Set your priorities

Got a long to-do list? Don’t attempt to accomplish everything all at once. Set clear priorities by color-coding your planner. You can process each day’s tasks easily by just glancing at color-coded sticky notes. This set of Sticky Notes includes stationery in different colors and sizes.

Manage your workload

How often have you taken on extra deliverables or said yes to engagements, only to realize that your calendar is too full? This year, take care of your mental health and say no when you have to. Stay on top of your schedule with a handy pocket-sized Animal Desk Calendar. These colorful calendars, which come in pretty pastel colors, feature monthly views.

Keep your workspace tidy

It’s perfectly understandable if you don’t always have the time to keep your workspace spotless when you’re busy, but as much as possible, try to keep everything in its proper place. This Wooden Desk Organizer makes it easier to arrange your documents, notes, pens, and other supplies.

Track your finances consistently

Spent more than you intended during the holidays? It’s fine to treat yourself, but remember to set some savings aside as well. Get your finances back on track this year with a Budget Planner. Place your budget for each week inside the binder pockets and jot down your expenditures on the colored labels.

Baguio City latest to join PLDT, Smart conversations series on mental health awareness

Thursday, December 16, 2021

PLDT and Smart continues its Better Today conversations series on mental health, this time with Baguio City.

Mental health professionals Riyan Portuguez and JP Silvestre, and advocate Claudia Barretto took part in the virtual event. Portuguez and Silvestre discussed suicide, coping mechanisms, prevention, and destigmatizing mental illness, especially among peers and within communities. Meanwhile, Barretto shared her personal experience as a mental health survivor and student.

According to Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Levy Lloyd Braza Orcales, the Local Government of Baguio aims to create a safe space and platform for the youth to discuss mental health. “We hope that this will help our youth, especially those facing challenges when it comes to school,” Orcales said.

A number of universities in Baguio recently faced an alarming rate of suicide, depression and anxiety cases, especially when it comes to dealing with online classes. The City implemented an academic break to give time for the youth to take care of their mental well-being.

Baguio City Vice Mayor Faustino Atiwag Olowan shared that the City passed its Mental Health Ordinance, which was authored by Orcales, to help ensure people’s well-being. Vice Mayor Olowan recognized PLDT and Smart for bringing the Better Today mental health program to Baguio. “We hope that this will serve as a [mental health] break for our youth. Together with PLDT and Smart, the City of Baguio will continue to create mental health programs that will empower our youth. They are our future and they play a critical role in our country’s nation-building,” Olowan said.

The discussion also touched on the importance of digital technology when it comes to opening lines for communication. For PLDT and Smart, and with the youth as today’s digital natives, the Internet becomes a great catalyst of their generation, which enables them to access information and provides more opportunities to learn, to be more informed, and to be better.

PLDT and Smart seek to uplift and improve the overall physical and mental wellness of Filipinos through food security, improving nutrition, and creating awareness online.

These initiatives emphasize the Group’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG #3: Good Health and Well-Being.

#ThereIsHelp: Twitter launches a dedicated search prompt for HIV

Monday, December 6, 2021

Twitter today launched another global expansion of our #ThereIsHelp notification service with a dedicated search prompt for HIV-related information across Asia Pacific and the Americas: Brazil, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, SP-Latam, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United States. This notification prompt will provide valuable and authoritative resources around HIV and encourage people to reach out and get help when they need it. Building on our #ThereIsHelp notification service currently available for mental health and suicide prevention, vaccination, child sexual exploitation, COVID-19, gender-based violence, and freedom of expression; this work is part of our efforts to ensure people have access to high-quality public health information and resources.

When people search for keywords associated with HIV, the top search result will now include a notification in local languages, encouraging them to reach out for credible information and sources of help — be it websites or hotlines of local public health authorities or non-profit organizations.

Twitter will continue to work closely with public health authorities and leading NGOs that provide critical emergency care, testing, emotional support, and counselling services to ensure that the keywords that generate the notification prompt remain relevant. Some of the search keywords include but are not limited to:

● Filipino: #LoveYourselfPH

Commenting on the global partnership with Twitter; Mahesh Mahalingam, Director, Communications and Global Advocacy, UNAIDS said “Forty years since the first AIDS cases were reported, HIV still threatens the world. But ending AIDS requires ending inequalities, which necessitates transformative change. The course corrections we need to end AIDS will also protect the world against future pandemics. Therefore, we are very pleased to partner with Twitter in our journey ahead. This World AIDS Day, we’d encourage everyone to use #ThereIsHelp to access critical information around HIV, and remind ourselves that global inequalities affect us all, no matter who we are or where we are from. Together with Twitter, we hope to move societies from commitment to action by widening access to authoritative information, encouraging dialogue and shaping public discourse towards creating healthy and inclusive societies.”

“We’re committed to protecting the health of the public conversation on Twitter — ensuring individuals can find credible information from authoritative sources is a key part of that mission. We also recognized that it is crucial for the public to have access to a free and #OpenInternet in combating the stigma around HIV. Therefore, we’ve partnered with public health authorities and local nonprofit organizations across Asia Pacific to provide people with access to accurate information about HIV, getting the help that they need, and launch dedicated #ThereisHelp notification prompt for HIV. We look forward to continuing the collaborations to help promote inclusion and diversity and fight against inequalities, as well as HIV stigma and discrimination,” said Monrawee Ampolpittayanant - Head of Public Policy, Government and Philanthropy, Southeast Asia at Twitter.

HIV stigma during COVID-19

HIV remains a major issue to public health in 2021, despite significant progress having been made in recent decades. Division and disparity for human rights have long been the contributing factors to the difficulty faced by people living with HIV. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has made it more difficult by exacerbating inequities and disruptions to services related to HIV.[1] In 2020, around 800,000 children aged 0-14 years were living with HIV with no access to treatments.

This year’s theme of World AIDS Day is “End inequalities. End AIDS.” with a special focus on highlighting the growing inequalities in access to essential HIV services. WHO is calling on global leaders and citizens to rally to confront the inequalities that drive AIDS and to reach people who are currently not receiving essential HIV services.

Data from Twitter shows that conversations about HIV spikes around #WorldAIDSDay on December 1 every year. In 2020, there were close to 9 million Tweets about HIV globally, out of which over 1 million Tweets were generated in December 2020.

At Twitter, we recognize our role and responsibility to help ensure that people can access and receive support on our service when they need it the most. The various communities on Twitter are a source of positive support and are thriving; encouraging each other who may be struggling with stigma or lack of information around HIV, and to reach out for professional help.

United to help provide more access to information

We recognize that access to a free and #OpenInternet and collaboration — public, private and community — is the key to combating the stigma around HIV. As local organizations continue to use Twitter as a channel to identify and reach out to vulnerable people who they may otherwise not have contact with, and to raise awareness of their important services; we hope that the #ThereIsHelp notification service will complement these efforts.

Twitter partners with trusted NGO and government partners in 30 markets to make #ThereIsHelp HIV notification prompt possible, and will continue to expand these prompts in other markets in the near future. In the Philippines, Twitter partnered with LoveYourself, Inc. (@LoveYourselfPh).

“LoveYourself, Inc. started its roots as a volunteer-based HIV organization with a single tweet that enabled Filipino Twitter users to have a safe space to talk about their sexual health until we could bring it down to the grassroots levels by establishing community centers and outreach programs and multi-platform campaigns. Operating in one of the countries with still rising cases of HIV, LoveYourself explores all its options to respond to the persisting HIV epidemic in the Philippines. We offer a holistic and differentiated care approach to serve the HIV continuum of care for awareness, prevention, testing, treatment, and support with the help of our stakeholders, such as the government, the private sector, the media, and international organizations like Twitter. The use of Twitter has been a primordial part of our awareness strategy to reach and mobilize key populations for HIV in the Philippines, and this partnership will undoubtedly provide tenfold of impact to the communities we serve as we continue to use the platform in influencing Filipinos' mindset to nurture their self-worth and take care of their sexual health as a way to love themselves,” said

Raybert D. Domingo - Director for Communications and Community Development at LoveYourself, Inc.

#WorldAIDSDay Emoji

In partnership with UNAIDS (@UNAIDS), we are also launching a special red ribbon emoji to raise awareness of HIV. The emoji, which is the symbol for World AIDS day, is available from today to December 5, 2021. It will automatically appear in your Tweet when you Tweet with the #WorldAIDSDay hashtag.

At Twitter, we understand our role in disseminating important public health information. It's important to help people find reliable information that enhances their health and wellbeing. We believe #ThereIsHelp and Twitter’s other partnerships and initiatives in this area make a valuable contribution to the ongoing and larger efforts required to address this serious issue. Wherever you are, please know that #ThereIsHelp

Lingayen's 'breakthrough undertaking' with PLDT, Smart enables youth mental wellness

Thursday, November 25, 2021

mental wellness

Championing mental wellness to more communities, PLDT and Smart, through the Better Today program, collaborated with the local government unit (LGU) of Lingayen, raising youth awareness on mental health.

Entitled, “Better Today with Lingayen”, the conversations series held last November 12 has initially garnered at least 4,000 views.

According to Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo N. Bataoil, mental health is equally important as physical health, especially when it comes to one’s over-all well-being. Bataoil shared that the LGU’s collaboration with PLDT and Smart when it comes to raising mental health awareness is “a breakthrough undertaking”.

“We will not turn a blind eye to the needs of our youth… May they be reminded that they have someone to lean on, someone to talk to, and someone who is there. All of our programs and advocacies are geared in ensuring a bright future for the youth of Lingayen,” Bataoil said.

Bataoil also underscored the importance of reaching out to loved ones and friends, especially amid the pandemic. “Malayo ang mararating ng simpleng “kumusta?” (A simple “how are you?” will go a long way),” Bataoil added.

In addition, Lingayen Vice Mayor Judy Vargas-Quiocho emphasized how creating platforms such as the conversations series on mental health awareness becomes an important tool in providing a safe space for people to express themselves and their feelings.

“The very first step para lumuwag ang pinagdadaanan natin ay pag-usapan natin ito… May kakampi kayo. May karamay kayo. May kasama kayo (The very first step to lighten your load is by talking about it, [and know] that you have someone to lean on, to be with, and to support you),” Vargas-Quiocho said.

The event followed a talk show format where it invited mental health professionals Dr. Ricardo Guanzon and psychologist Arvin Villalon, and mental health advocate Claudia Barretto.

Guanzon talked about grief and loss and its coping mechanisms. He shared the five stages of grief, which include denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. He emphasized the importance of accepting the reality as a critical part of moving on and moving forward.

Meanwhile, Villalon talked about how it is important to know the issues that one faces. “We have to be honest about ourselves and our feelings, and to know that it is okay to ask for help,” Villalon said.

For her part, student and mental health advocate Claudia Barretto shared her personal experience as she continues to fight her mental struggles. According to Barretto, she remains strong and resilient by creating a safe space for her to express herself, which helps validate her own feelings.

PLDT and Smart seek to uplift and improve the overall physical and mental wellness of Filipinos through initiatives that ensure food security, improve nutrition, and create awareness online.

These initiatives emphasize the commitment of PLDT and Smart to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG #3: Good Health and Well-Being.
