Emirates touches down in Tel Aviv

Thursday, June 30, 2022

Emirates touched down in Tel Aviv today on its first ever service into Israel, operated with its latest Boeing 777 ‘game-changer’ aircraft.

Reflecting the importance of this new air transport link, the high-profile delegation onboard the inaugural flight included: His Excellency Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy; His Excellency Mohamed Al Khaja, UAE Ambassador to Israel; His Excellency Amir Hayek, Israeli Ambassador to UAE; Mr Waleed Al Naqbi, Senior Administrator – Coordination & Follow up, UAE Ministry of Economy; Mr Richard Mintz, Advisor to the UAE Ambassador in the United States; Mr Ahmad AlMarri, Dubai Economy and Tourism, Head of Region – GCC & Mena International Operations; Mr Abdulhamied Seddiqi, Vice Chairman at Seddiqi Holding; and Mr Ross Kiel, Director at Kosher Arabia.

Emirates executives onboard included: Mr Adel Al Redha, Chief Operating Officer; Dr Abdulla Al Hashimi, Divisional Senior Vice President, Group Security; Mr Adil Al Ghaith, Senior Vice President, Commercial Gulf, Middle East & Central Asia; Mr David Broz, Vice President Aeropolitical and Industry Affairs; and Mr Jeffrey Van Haeften, Vice President Global Cargo Global Sales and Commercial.

Emirates flight EK931 was welcomed by Ben Gurion Airport with a water cannon salute, drawing an audience of travelers, aviation fans and guests from across the industry to watch the arrival of the airline’s first service. On touchdown, the VIP delegation was welcomed by Ms Merav Michaeli, Israel’s Minister of Transport and Road Safety.

After the welcome ceremony, Emirates showcased the interiors of its latest Boeing 777’ game-changer’s aircraft to government officials and guests. The aircraft features the world’s first fully-enclosed First Class suites with virtual windows and room service, offering the ultimate in luxury and privacy, plus many more thoughtful touches to ensure customer comfort across all cabin classes. Emirates will subsequently operate its three-class Boeing 777-300ER on the Dubai-Tel Aviv route, offering eight private suites in First Class, 42 lie flat seats in Business Class and 304 spacious seats in Economy Class for the daily service.

“The ties between Israel and the UAE are strategic economic ties and are critical to strengthening our position in face of the changing threats in the Middle East. On my last visit to the UAE, I signed agreements that will facilitate the trade and mobility between us, mobility as a tool to empower the citizens and economies of both countries,” said Israel’s Minister of Transport and Road Safety MK Merav Michaeli.

"The step we are marking today is far beyond aviation, it is an important political step that blurs the physical boundaries between us and strengthens our mutual commitment."

“We are excited about the launch of Tel Aviv service which adds to our growing network. From the time we first announced plans to include Tel Aviv in our global reservation systems, we received strong demand from travelers - not only in Israel, but also from many of our destinations including to and from the UAE. Some of the high demand also came from Australia, Indonesia, Brazil, the United States, and the Philippines. This reflects the strength of our product offering, the reach of our global network and the efficiency of our hub Dubai for worldwide connections. Our new service will provide tourism, trade and business opportunities,” said Adel Al Redha, Emirates Chief Operating Officer.

“We look forward to welcoming our customers to experience Emirates’ product on ground and on board, as well as enjoy a unique experience across all classes. We take this opportunity to thank our friends and partners for supporting the launch of the service."

Emirates’ flight schedules to and from Tel Aviv have been timed to provide convenient access to Dubai, and connections to popular destinations like Australia, the Philippines, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

In addition, Emirates’ codeshare partnership with flydubai offers travelers even more choices when they connect in Dubai, unlocking access to the combined network of both carriers which span 210 destinations in 100 countries.

Travelers looking for well-curated, premium travel packages to Dubai and other popular Emirates destinations at great value can also book their vacation with Emirates Holidays to enjoy a one-stop personalized travel solution.

The strong bilateral relations between the UAE and Israel are evident in the rise of the number of businesses that have been set up after the signing of the historic Abraham Accords. Currently, over 500 Israeli companies operate in the UAE, and trade between the UAE and Israel is expected to reach USD $2 billion by the end of this year.*

The new Emirates service will help nurture further business and tourism links. By providing vital connectivity with its extensive global network, the new Dubai-Tel Aviv route will support both countries in advancing their economic cooperation across a number of fields, including technology, health, education, investment, among others.

An enabler for trade, Emirates SkyCargo will offer an average of 20 tonnes of belly-hold capacity on every flight, carrying key Israeli exports like fruits and vegetables, pharmaceuticals, industrial machinery and electronics, metals, and other high-value goods to the UAE and other international markets. The airline is also set to transport manufacturing raw materials and components, semiconductors, and e-commerce parcels to Israel.

Over 300,000 Israelis have visited the UAE in the last two years despite pandemic restrictions, according to the Dubai Department of Economy & Tourism, and that number is expected to increase with travel restrictions easing further.

Emirates’ flights to Tel Aviv operate as EK931 and EK932. The daily flight leaves at 15:50hrs, arriving in Ben Gurion Airport at 18:00hrs local time. The return flight departs Tel Aviv at 19:55hrs, arriving in Dubai at 23:59hrs (local time).

Israeli customers flying on Emirates to and from Tel Aviv will enjoy the airline’s award-winning experience, with innovative products and personalized touches across every cabin class, coupled with warm hospitality from the airline’s cabin crew hailing from 130 nationalities. Customers can also savor freshly prepared menus including kosher meals, available for pre-order on all flights, and be spoilt for choice with Emirates’ ice entertainment system, which boasts over 5,000 channels of on-demand entertainment to choose from, including Hebrew language movies and content.

Personal Collection ongoing environment-centric efforts to scale up protection of PH coastlines

Friday, June 24, 2022

Personal Collection Direct Selling Inc. ramps up mangrove-planting and coastal clean-up activities across the Philippines as it celebrates the triumphant first year of its #GreenLifeGreatLife movement – a commitment to step up the company’s participation in making the world a better place for future generations.

After pioneering the shift from merely recyclable to biodegradable packaging that’s good for the environment, Personal Collection’s eco-warriors did not miss the chance to make their contributions count.

Last April, dealers and employees planted over 30,000 mangrove seedlings in Sta. Cruz in Zambales, Noveleta in Cavite, and Orion in Bataan. In addition to the 70,000 mangroves Personal Collection’s volunteers planted from November to December last year, this brings the total to 100,000 mangroves in just a span of eight months. These efforts are deemed important in protecting the coastlines from erosion and flooding and in preserving the marine life and the creatures that take shelter in the affected aquatic habitats.

This substantial achievement has been possible with the help of the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) and the proactive support of Personal Collection’s thousands of dealers and employees all over the country.

Coastal cleanup hustle and bustle (Las Piñas Wetland Park Coastal Cleanup)

Alongside mangrove planting, Personal Collection has been organizing coastal clean-ups since October last year as it aims to help in addressing the gigantic plastic pollution problem in the country. In fact, the Philippines is the world’s third-largest plastic waste contributor, with over 0.75 million metric tons of mismanaged plastic waste dumped in landfills or in oceans yearly as shown in a World Bank report (Market Study for the Philippines: Plastics Circularity Opportunities and Barriers, March 21, 2021).

In partnership with Marine Conservation Philippines, Personal Collection has led volunteers in different parts of the country and has collected thousands of kilos of trash from the coasts of Dumaguete, Siaton, Bayawan, Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park, BASECO Beach in Manila, Isla Pulo in Navotas, and Centennial Park in Malabon.

Launched last June 8, 2021, Personal Collection’s #GreenLifeGreatLife movement is in line with the company’s commitment to creating a positive impact on the environment. It started with manufacturing eco-friendly packaging for its top-selling flagship household products: Tuff TBC (Toilet Bowl Cleanser), Tuff MSC (Multi-Surface Cleaner), and sof & mmmmm….. Concentrated Fabric Conditioner. The biodegradable packaging is designed to decompose within five to 10 years in landfill conditions, unlike regular plastic bottles which could take up to 1,000 years before disintegrating into harmful microplastics.

In April this year, Personal Collection officially launched Tuff Naturals, the company’s first liquid laundry detergent. It comes not only in biodegradable packaging but is also comprised of 95% biodegradable ingredients – unarguably the smarter choice for the environment.

With the #GreenLifeGreatLife movement, Personal Collection takes the lead in offering the Great Life through high-quality and environmentally responsible products and supporting employees, direct sellers, and customers to become ambassadors of sustainable living and environmental conservation.

Together with Global Electric Transport (GET) Philippines, LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announces the launch of the extended Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) – Makati shuttle service route for LRT-1 Riders Club members.

LRT-1 Riders Club is the organization of LRT-1 passengers entitled to different membership benefits, such as unlimited shuttle service rides through the GETPASS App. In March 2022, LRMC and GET officially teamed up for the shuttle service that features the Community Optimized Managed Electric Transport (COMET) – a world-class, air-conditioned, fully electric, and zero-emission minibus with a capacity of 30 passengers and travel range of over 100 kilometers on a single full charge. The pilot implementation saw the electric shuttle service running between LRT-1 EDSA Station and the Manila Bay ASEANA area with designated loading/unloading points along Macapagal Boulevard until PITX. During the free ride period of 30 March to 14 May 2022, the COMET shuttle service was able to serve over 6,000 passengers.

Given the successful pilot implementation, the shuttle service route will now be extended to Circuit Makati (Ayala Malls Circuit) with LRT-1 Gil Puyat Footbridge and select areas going to Makati Central Business District and Ayala Malls Circuit as additional designated loading/unloading points.

“We’re glad to share this timely news as we see the return of more people to work or school, and an increase in economic activities. LRMC remains committed in our mission to provide a comfortable journey for commuters, and part of this is working with different transport operators towards our vision of integrated mobility. Our goal is to link LRT-1 stations to different key areas to ensure seamless connections and help people by improving their commuting experience,” LRMC Head of Operations Andrea Madrid said.

Moreover, LRT-1 Riders Club members will enjoy COMET shuttle FREE UNLIMITED RIDES starting 15 June until 30 June 2022 through the GETPASS App. Members just need to simply present the GETPASS App upon riding the COMET minibus to avail the limited-time offer.

“On June 15 we will begin to service the Makati Central Business District Route which passes thru Ayala Ave, Legaspi and Salcedo Villages! We are also providing FREE ride to all LRT-1 Riders Club members from June 15 to 30! Let's ride the Comet Electric Bus now for a safer and greener environment,” GET Philippines Managing Director Anthony Dy shared.

LRT-1 passengers can enjoy these benefits and more by signing up to become members of the LRT-1 Riders Club on the GETPASS App available for download on Google Play and App Store. To date, LRT-1 Riders Club already has close to 4,000 members.

After the free ride period, LRT-1 Riders Club members may purchase membership passes on the GETPASS App that come in the following amounts and validity of unlimited rides: Bronze – Php 50 (1 day pass), Silver – Php 150 (1 week pass), and Gold – Php 500 (1 month pass). The membership pass also provides access to ride the COMET buses in other routes within the GET Philippines network. LRT-1 Riders Club members with active passes or remaining balances on their GETPASS account can avail the free ride without charge to their purse load. Regular charge will resume on 01 July 2022.

COMET electric buses operate from Monday to Saturday, excluding holidays, with the first trips leaving PITX at 6:00am and Circuit Makati at 8:00am. Last trips are scheduled at 5:00pm (PITX) and 7:00pm (Circuit Makati).

For more updates and information on the COMET shuttle service for LRT-1 passengers, download the GETPASS App for free on Google Play and App Store, and follow LRT-1 Riders Club on Facebook at facebook.com/lrt1ridersclub

Going Green for Good: McDonald's opens new solar-powered restaurants

Wednesday, June 15, 2022

solar-powered restaurants
The newest solar-powered McDonald’s store in Arayat, Pampanga. These solar panels will become a significant source of electricity for the restaurant, providing employees and customers with clean and renewable energy.

Quick service restaurant giant McDonald’s Philippines, majority owned and operated by its Master Franchise Holder, Chairman & Founder Dr. George T. Yang is poised to strengthen its Green & Good intiative, the company’s commitment to the environment, by scaling innovative and sustainable restaurant solutions in more of its new stores in the country.

Since 2020, McDonald’s has opened two Green & Good flagship stores in Manila and Mandaluyong to test and learn green solutions for sustainable restaurant practices. Previously, the company also conducted a pilot test in its Quezon Avenue, Quezon City and Malasiqui, Pangasinan stores to explore rooftop solar power systems.

Today, McDonald’s is now set to roll out its first batch of new stores in Arayat, Pampanga and Ligao, Albay to be solar-powered. These stores are equipped with grid-tied/on-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) systems connected to the local utility grid and is a cost-effective option to supplement energy requirements. With potentially more than 70,000 KWH in estimated annual power generation, equivalent to approximately less 17,000 kg of CO2 emissions. With the solar rooftop being its significant source of electricity, McDonald’s will be able to power these stores with clean and renewable energy, enhancing its other sustainable solutions for its restaurants.

“McDonald's Philippines is embarking on our journey towards becoming a better McDonald's for the environment. We recognize the role we play and the impact we can make by committing to learn and scale initiatives that reduce waste and emissions”, shared McDonald’s Philippines President & CEO Kenneth S. Yang. “Our goal is for our stores to become sustainable developments that feature sustainable restaurant solutions that enable waste reduction, energy conservation, upcycling, and inclusive dining solutions.”

Similar to its existing branches in U.N. Del Pilar Manila and Shaw Wack-Wack Mandaluyong, the new stores will also feature solar lamp posts, photo and motion sensors, and high-performance glass film as part of its utility efficiency solutions, as well as eco-friendly air conditioning for less energy consumption. Green building solutions such as light gauge steel frames, ecopavers/panels and concrete fiber are incorporated as well. Meanwhile, sustainable packaging, proper waste disposal, and active mobility continue to be part of Green & Good stores’ upcycling and inclusive dining experiences.

This year, the company projects to further expand its commitment to the environment by opening more new Green & Good flagship stores in the country and convert more of its existing stores to use solar power energy.

World Vision, Nagdilaab Foundation ink agreement to boost Basilan children’s education

Monday, June 13, 2022

World Vision and Basilan-based non-government organization Nagdilaab Foundation recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will help families and the local government units in Basilan province provide better education and protection to children.

“World Vision is fortunate to sign an agreement with an experienced and another child-focused organization, Nagdilaab Foundation, in ensuring the wellbeing of children in Basilan. We are also excited to work with everyone here in the province, from the academe, families to government agencies, in giving children the conducive environment to learn and fulfill their dreams someday,” Rommel Fuerte, World Vision National Director, says.

“Nagdilaab Foundation is happy to have partnered with World Vision to assist children in Basilan to have better education access and ensure that their wellbeing is advocated. Nagdilaab believes that every Filipino child should be given equal opportunities in society to make their dreams come true and their lives better. We believe that no child must be left behind. We hope this partnership will,” Miriam Suacito, Nagdilaab Foundation Executive Director, says.

Fuerte and Suacito signed the MOU witnessed by World Vision, Amores Interfaith, and Jabu-Jabu, the Calling staff.

Under World Vision’s project Reaching Children in BaSulTa Island Provinces for Child Well-Being, the agreement will guarantee that children and youth have improved access to education, and their families and communities learn how to be prepared for disasters or emergencies. BaSulTa stands for Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-tawi, all located in the southernmost part of the Philippines.

According to Mark Sefuentes, the project coordinator, many children in Basilan need assistance. “I’ve noticed some children would go to school by boat on their own, which is quite risky. Also, some of the children are without slippers.”

Aside from the MOU signing activity, World Vision and Nagdilaab Foundation also provided around 100 children with new school bags that contained supplies such as crayons, a drawing book, hygiene items, a raincoat, a flashlight, and solar-powered radio. In addition, three initial learning centers received printers, inks, and bond papers.

“The children and families were so happy to receive these items, especially the solar-powered radios. One of the communities still has no electricity. The radios will be useful to them as they listen to news and announcements,” Sefuentes adds.

Araneta City harnesses AR technology to bring urban art to life

Wednesday, June 8, 2022

Augmented Reality (AR) is the next frontier in the enhanced user experience promised by technology. Soon, all of our gadgets can seamlessly blend with the world around us, prompting us with helpful tips, directions, and even recommendations.

But as early as now, the City of Firsts has been utilizing this groundbreaking new technology to bring to life new experiences that can be had at Araneta City.

At the activity area of Gateway Mall, visitors can enjoy the benefits of AR technology at the Binibining Pilipinas 2022 Glam Shot Photo Exhibit. At first look, you’ll see the striking 7-ft tall portrait images of 40 Binibining Pilipinas. But what’s novel about this exhibit is that once you train your phone on the images, you’ll see the candidates come to life and display all their fierceness right on your screen.

To try out this AR experience, download the UniteAR app on their smartphones, open the AR camera on the app, and scan the QR code in any of the panels. From there, the images of the Binibinis will spring to life offering us a glimpse of their beauty and grace.

“We believe in always elevating the experience of our customers. Through the use of AR in activities like this photo exhibit, we are bringing technological innovation to our patrons that allows them to have an exciting virtual Binibining Pilipinas experience,” Marjorie Go, AVP for Marketing of Araneta City, said.

The Binibining Pilipinas 2022 Glam Shot Photo Exhibit will stay at the Gateway Mall Activity Area until June 11 and will be moved to other Araneta City malls like Farmers Plaza and Ali Mall in the days leading to the pageant’s Grand Coronation Night.

Elsewhere in the City of Firsts, huge artworks and murals are also powered by AR technology. There's the Tropical Mural near the Gateway Mall skybridge (near Miniso), the Pet Pals Mural beside the Gateway Mall-General Roxas Ave. exit (beside Conti's Bakeshop), the Waterfalls Mural at the New Frontier Theater Arcade (beside McDonalds), and the Kobe Bryant Mural at the Shopwise Arcade (beside Bonchon) -- all of which can come to life on your smartphones when you scan the QR codes near these artworks.

AR technology is also currently being used by Araneta City’s Gateway Gallery for its groundbreaking SiningSaysay: Philippine History in Art exhibit, which features 30 large history paintings that mark various pivotal moments in Philippine history. Visitors who will scan the paintings via the Gateway Gallery mobile app will be greeted with an informational video about the artwork.

“AR technology adds a layer of innovation to the experience of the Araneta City-zens. Whether it’s used to showcase the Filipina beauty or the very rich and diverse culture around the world, AR can create opportunities to engage customers like never before, so expect to see more offerings with this interactive feature at the City of Firsts,” Go added.

Herbalife Nutrition Philippines accepts the Champion for Childcare award at SOS Village Philippines

Tuesday, June 7, 2022

Herbalife Nutrition Foundation (HNF), a global nonprofit dedicated to improving lives of children and communities around the world, has been recently awarded the Champion for Childcare Award by SOS Children’s Village Philippines for sustaining the quality care of SOS children through food subsidy and nutrition education. Held in a ceremony in the SOS Village of the Philippines in Alabang, the award was accepted by Allan Domingo, General Manager of Herbalife Philippines. During the ceremony, SOS village highlighted HNF’s significant contribution and efforts that changed the lives of the children that the organization supports.

SOS Children’s Village Philippines, a private, non-political, non-government organization that provides a normal family environment to children who have lost or are at risk of losing parental care, relies on the support and contributions of its partners to sustain the programs for the children under their care. Champions for Childcare or Child Care Champ Awardees are leading long-term partners who continue to add value to the organization. These are benefactors, advocates, and ambassadors that uphold the rights and best interests of each and every child that SOS supports.

For 12 years running, HNF has been supporting the children of SOS through their food, Health, and Nutrition Education programs, making them the longest-running partner that the non-government organization has had since its founding in the Philippines.

Throughout the years, the company has introduced different programs to SOS such as the STAR program – a campaign that aims to encourage children to consume food that will provide them with the proper nutrition that they need, helping nearly 9,000 children.

“We at Herbalife think that our children are a big part of our future. What we’re doing here with SOS is embedded in our corporate structure, we wanted to work with an organization that truly embodies our values and that is to help communities by providing nutritional value to our children and change the world, one child at a time,” Allan Domingo, General Manager of Herbalife Nutrition Philippines

Nutritional care has always been Herbalife’s top priority since its founding in 1980. Partnered with non-government organizations and supported by the company’s critical resources, Herbalife Nutrition, through its initiatives over the years, has been the global leader in fighting malnutrition and hunger in the Philippines and across the world.

“We, at SOS Children’s Village Philippines, are eternally grateful for the support, and partnership we have from Herbalife, and its Herbalife Foundation. Upholding our advocacy to better the lives of the children have not been an easy feat, but has been more than possible with Herbalife Foundation’s constant presence that have helped us through,” said Ramil Rayos Del Sol Deputy National Director and OIC of SOS Village Philippines

To ensure that its standards of data protection are maintained, HCPH developed a Privacy Manual for all external partners that process HCPH data, particularly Personal Data. Part of the policy found in the manual is to only partner with organizations, which process personal data with security controls at least at par with company policies or policies of the group of companies to which HCPH belongs. This management style helps HCPH incorporate data protection controls with partners to prevent possible data breaches and improve partners’ data security.

HCPH privacy management is made to be preventive and not remedial to data protection, anticipating future security issues and risks for the company. With its manual set in place, HCPH regularly conducts compliance testing on data privacy issues faced by business units to validate risk ratings and security controls, making HCPH safe and secure through its proactive security measures which complement its security management processes in response to possible incidents.

Security from Inside Out

HCPH continuously enhances its internal Privacy Management Governance Framework which balances the individual’s right to data privacy while enabling business strategy. This Framework serves as HCPH’s model or map in seeing the interrelated relationships, factors, and other influences upon the business, especially concerning data privacy. It steers HCPH in the right direction in terms of management and regulatory compliance to achieve its business objectives of having efficient processes, having accountability, and ensuring customer trust.

“Data privacy is a priority here at Home Credit. We ensure that our customers, partners, and internal stakeholders can depend on us to uphold their privacy rights and process their personal data lawfully. Developing a company-initiated security framework that meets or even exceeds our obligations under the Data Privacy Act of 2012 is of utmost importance to us,” shares Atty. Reiyl Siang, HCPH Data Protection Officer.

Atty. Siang adds, “As we continue to provide financial inclusion to unbanked and underserved Filipinos across all walks of life, we also continue to build trust among all stakeholders to continue doing business with us.”

BPI AIA raffles off 2 brand-new cars to lucky policyholders

Two lucky policyholders of top-ranking insurance firm BPI AIA (formerly BPI-Philam) each get rewarded with a brand-new car for simply sustaining their policies. Eleazar Jugarap won a new Honda HR-V for consistently paying his policy premiums on time, while Arnaldo Andrade was the raffle winner under the reinstated auto-surrender/lapsed policies category.

Andrade, 47, got a Critical Care Plus unit-linked health and life insurance plan to protect himself and his family in case of the unexpected. Family is also the priority for Jugarap, 38, who maintains the savings and life insurance policy Build Life Plus. They have long chosen BPI AIA as their life protection partner and appreciate the quality of service of their respective BPI branches.

“Ang pakiramdam ko sa pagiging BPI AIA customer ay panatag sa sarili na mayroon na akong igagastos sa sarili ‘pag magkasakit o maiwan sa pamilya ko (I feel that as a BPI AIA customer, I am at peace that I will have something to spend on myself when I get sick or leave my family),” Jugarap said.

For both, winning the car was an unexpected but welcome surprise. The raffle draw was held in the presence of BPI AIA executives.

“I am very happy. Sobrang nagulat ako. Hindi pa ako makapaniwala noong una, at akala ko pa nga scam eh. Totoo pala (I was so surprised. I couldn’t believe it at first, and I even thought it was a scam. It’s real),” Andrade said.

A strategic alliance between two leading companies in the country – AIA Philippines and Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), BPI AIA held the special campaign from January to December 2021 to provide loyal customers more incentives for managing their insurance plans well.

Apart from the cars given away as the grand prize, more lucky customers were rewarded as much as Php 5,000 worth of eGift credits each for being good clients who adopt better habits such as doing timely payment, enrolling to automatic payment facilities (auto-debit or auto-credit arrangement), shifting to less frequent modes of payment, and resuming premium payment for policies on premium holiday.

“Our customers have already taken the first step when it comes to securing their future, but we believe the market needs a little more push in terms of reforming mindsets and habits about insurance. Through this special campaign, we have incentivized better payment behaviors and extended more leeway to help those with lapsed policies get back on track and continue to be protected through the coverage and benefits of their purchased plan. We wanted to do this to make our customers feel that a relationship with BPI AIA is a rich and rewarding experience and that a journey towards healthier, longer, better lives is worth taking,” said BPI AIA CEO Surendra Menon.

In the Philippines, insurance penetration increased to 2.03% in Premium Volume as a share of gross domestic product (GDP) during the third quarter of 2021, from 1.69% in the same period in 2020. BPI AIA has consistently been recognized by the Insurance Commission as one of the country’s leading insurers, with net income of Php 2 billion by the end of 2021. This is a simple testament of how BPI AIA policyholders are assured that their insurance firm of choice is backed by financial strength and stability.

Start securing your future with BPI AIA, and be rewarded for making better choices. Visit the website or official Facebook page or contact the virtual assistant Bessie (via Messenger). Existing policyholders must regularly update or confirm their contact information through My AIA or the corporate website to remain up-to-date on promotions.

Spectrum energizes Alphatech first solar-powered faciity

Alphatech solar-powered facility

Spectrum, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has energized Alphatech Development Corporation’s first solar-powered facility, supporting the latter’s push for sustainable business operations.

Officials from the two companies on May 25 led the inauguration of the 856.80 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar rooftop project at Alphatech’s manufacturing plant in Guiguinto, Bulacan.

The project is expected to generate approximately 1,125,835 kWh of clean energy every year and will allow Alphatech to save about PhP3.3 million in energy costs annually.

The company will likewise reduce its carbon footprint by an estimated 802 metric tons, which translates more than 82,000 trees planted and 3,194,070 kilometers reduced in vehicle travel per year.

"Today’s inauguration is a huge win for our company and our community. I’ve laid out the challenge to our company’s leadership team to seek ways to drive environmental sustainability in our day-to-day operations, and this is a major step in that direction," Allan Keith G. Castro, Alphatech Senior Vice President, said during the inaugural ceremony.

Alphatech is a unit of Plastimer Group of Companies, which is a provider of plastic products and services in the country.

To further its sustainability efforts, the Plastimer Group is also seeking ways to expand its capabilities to reuse the plastic resin of its products after they reach their useful life. It is also improving the open spaces at its plants by turning them into parks and sanctuaries.

Spectrum Chief Operations Officer Patrick Henry T. Panlilio, meanwhile, said: “We thank Alphatech for entrusting Spectrum with its first solar project. Working in a highly competitive industry requires efficiency to cut down costs and resiliency to survive changes in regulations and we are glad that we are able to help Alphatech find solutions to achieve operational efficiencies using clean energy generated from this solar project. This is just the first step in its journey towards more sustainable operations.”

“Consistent with Meralco's mandate to promote and utilize clean and sustainable energy sources, we strive to provide our customers with safe, affordable and reliable solar solutions. We do this by keeping our supply chain efficient and maintaining high standards in parallel with quality control measures for each step of our end-to-end service. We hope that this is just the beginning of a long and fulfilling sustainability journey for Alphatech which we, in Spectrum, would be more than happy to support,” he added.

Alphatech joins the roster of international and local companies that engaged Meralco and Spectrum to advance their sustainability goals through clean energy.

Spectrum offers tailor-fit solutions for industrial, commercial, and residential customers through an in-depth understanding of energy consumption behaviors and strategic partnerships with world-class technology partners.

Backed by Meralco’s energy expertise and proven safety track record, the renewable energy company has been providing services and solutions to help customers reduce their costs while taking part in saving the planet.
