Zone V Camera Club, PLDT Home bring digital learning to underprivileged students

Tuesday, November 15, 2022

PLDT Home and Zone V Camera Club, a premier club of photographers, continue with their mission of building online learning hubs for underprivileged youth with students of ERDA SaBaNa (Educational Research and Development Assistance, Samahan ng mga Batang Nananambakan) in Tondo, Manila as the latest beneficiary.

To empower the students to do better in school and in life, Zone V Camera Club donated computers while PLDT Home provided a 400 Mbps broadband connection for the next two years. Jointly, Zone V Camera Club and PLDT Home have refurbished ERDA’s computer room to make it more conducive for learning, while the walls and tables have also been repainted. A mural on one wall was painted to depict the modern-day life of the students in Tondo, Manila, and how they cope with digital learning.

Beneficiary ERDA SaBaNa Foundation in Tondo has been providing educational assistance including school supplies, bags and uniforms, tutorials and workshops, and leadership and life skills training for disadvantaged children to experience holistic education. ERDA has so far assisted more than 800,000 children in their school and real-life education since 1974.

These kids belong to the generation of digital natives, but they don’t have access to computers at home or the physical space to concentrate on researching for their class assignments. PLDT Home’s connections mean they now have a wealth of information at their fingertips to aid them in their school education, so that they may satisfy their curious minds and their thirst for knowledge about the world around them. This will also give them access to educational videos without lag and download or upload faster.

Last year, Zone V Camera Club chose Assumption Development Foundation (ADF) in Sapang Palay, Bulacan as the first beneficiary of their flagship project, Images of H.O.P.E (Helping Others Prosper and Excel). Zone V sells printed photos taken by its members to raise funds and build more online learning hubs for underprivileged Filipino students while PLDT Home provides the broadband connection.

Zone V Camera Club was founded in 1978 through the help of the late professional photographer Vic Valenciano. Club members are composed of professional photographers and enthusiasts who won in various local and international photography competitions.

Charity Dinner Concert to Fund Children Nutrition Program

To raise funds for a massive nationwide nutrition program for children, a charity dinner concert will be staged at The Manila Hotel on November 26, 2022 at 6:00pm.

This was announced by Joey Lina, The Manila Hotel President and Former Senator after the formation of an alliance of non-governmental organizations called “Alliance for a Healthy Philippines” (AHP) last October 6, 2022 also at The Manila Hotel. The alliance aims to increase awareness on the serious children malnutrition problem in the country and to implement barangay-based nutrition intervention program especially during the child’s first 1,000 days. The organizations include Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Jaycees, Midwives and the World Vision and others. The AHP will work in tandem with government, particularly with the National Nutrition Council (NNC).

The performers in the concert include the country’s premier music artists Isay Alvarez, Lara Maigue, Rachelle Gerodias, former press secretary Atty, Mike Toledo, former executive secretary Atty. Salvador Medialdea and Joey Lina.

Malusog na Bata, Malakas na Bansa is the battle cry of the organization. The theme of the concert is “Yes, I Believe”.

In a letter to various business organization and individuals asking for support to the nutrition program and the charity dinner concert, Lina explained the grim statistics surrounding the country’s children’s health and nutrition:

1) “The underlying cause of 95 child deaths daily in the Philippines is child undernutrition.”, according to the 2015 Unite For Children report from United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). This makes children undernutrition in our country much worse than the COVID-19 pandemic.

2) The 2016 Global Nutrition Report said the Philippines is among those with the highest wasting and stunting prevalence. Of a total of 130 countries ranked lowest to highest on wasting prevalence, the Philippines is ranked 93rd. On stunting, the Philippines has 30.3% prevalence and is at 88th spot out of 132 countries also ranked lowest to highest.

3) Health experts have warned that “chronic undernutrition leads to stunted growth, which is irreversible and is associated with impaired cognitive ability and reduced school performance, as well as poor work capacity and productivity.”

4) When it comes to Intelligence Quotient (IQ) in Southeast Asian nations, the Philippines ranked lowest according to a study released last year by the World Population Review.

5) The Philippines ranked lowest in reading literacy among 79 countries, and second to lowest in mathematics and science, based on the evaluation last 2019 by the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

Unless the country is able to solve the children malnutrition problem particularly in the child’s first 1,000 days, the most critical period in the child’s brain growth, the Philippines’ human resource will be not productive and school performance will be poor, Lina added.

Celeb dads Gary V. and Chito Miranda talks about investing in love

True love takes time and effort to grow. Celebrity dads Gary Valenciano and Chito Miranda say their definitions of love and commitment have changed through the years. For them, love also means keeping your loved ones protected from any eventuality. This is why they were chosen by AIA Philippines and BPI AIA to encourage more Filipinos to express their love both in words and in actions. Filipino fans can find videos of their music idols talking about love on the AIA Philippines and BPI AIA Facebook pages.

“Love always changes just as situations and circumstances change. Outlooks and perspectives change too. Even in marriage, change and vows are tested through years of being together. It’s only here where you see what unconditional love is all about. The challenges and tests are meant to deepen and broaden what love means to any individual,” says Gary.

Chito shares, “Love, for me, changed, not only in definition, but also how it felt, when I became a husband and a dad. Before, it simply meant being attached to someone emotionally. Now, it means, prioritizing someone else's happiness, and overall well-being above one's self, and being happy with it.”

Safe and Sound

The pandemic gave rise to many life realizations. For Gary, it was the importance of treasuring the moments you have with your loved ones. “It was a time none of us had ever experienced before. We hardly saw each other in 2020! It wasn’t easy how life became for my children. I knew they were struggling, but during the pandemic there was only so much that any parent like myself could do.”

He says he also now values his audiences more. “The pandemic has been the link that sort of bonds us as it was that one event that hit us all in ways we would never have expected. Cherishing time together is so important.” It also made him feel the grace and goodness of God, who kept him and his family safe and provided for.

Chito says his priorities were reshuffled during the pandemic. “I gained a much deeper understanding of what really matters in life, and what my priorities should be. My family's health and safety have always been my priority, but the pandemic showed me how I should properly prepare to secure their health and safety, and how important it is to spend time with family, and to focus on things that we often took for granted.”

Both dads say that they also realized the importance of keeping their family secure through protection from the trusted insurance coverage of AIA Philippines and BPI AIA, which has over 85 years of combined experience in helping people live healthier, longer, better lives.

“It is important to provide insurance coverage for your family. This way they are assured of medical benefits when sickness hits them. Partnering with a company like AIA feels special because they are a passionate group of professionals who make you feel that they care for your well-being and financial security. You know that they will be there for you during crisis situations. So choosing the right partner will surely make you confident about protecting potential health or life challenges,” Gary explains.

“Your insurance coverage is very important. You shouldn't take chances when so much is at stake. First, you need to be sure and absolutely know that you could trust your partner with your hard-earned money. Second, you need to be sure that they'll deliver when it matters. You need to partner with someone that will give you peace of mind that when the time comes that you need them most, you could count on them to be there without any hassles. That's why I choose BPI AIA,” Chito adds. “Aside from the protection and security it offers, it gives us more time to focus on other ways of expressing love because it gives us one less thing to worry about.”

“We are excited that Chito, a long time BPI AIA customer, has signed on to be our Brand Ambassador. With Chito at the frontline of this campaign for BPI AIA, we are able reach more Filipinos who might still not be thinking about getting protection for themselves and their loved ones, despite their experience during the pandemic,” discloses Surendra Menon, BPI AIA Chief Executive Officer.

“For AIA Philippines, Gary will continue to help us tell our story of saving lives, as we remain committed to fulfilling our mission of racing against risk to protect more Filipinos. There’s no better way to express our love and responsibility for those we love than the gift of protection, as this will help ensure that dreams will be fulfilled no matter what curveballs life throws our way,” expounds Kelvin Ang, AIA Philippines Chief Executive Officer. “Together, AIA Philippines and BPI AIA will bring to life our Purpose of helping people live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.”

Ang Batang Matibay, may Tibay Matuto sa Buhay

Bear Brand empowers every Filipino child to embrace lifelong learning from school and life in its newest campaign

In the Philippines, doing well in school is believed to be the key to having a better future. However, learning in life is equally as important. A child's strength of character is shaped not only by the lessons they learn in the classroom, but also by the lessons they learn in life. Together, these lessons give them strength to build a strong tomorrow, which is the message BEAR BRAND imparts in its newest TV commercial.

The campaign highlights the importance of “Tibay Matuto sa Buhay” with a little girl as the protagonist of the story. She starts her day with a glass of BEAR BRAND Powdered Milk prepared by her mom, followed by scenes of her not only learning in school, but also in life. There are many instances in life where a child can learn to do what is right, to have courage, and determination to power through challenges, like what the character exhibited in the commercial when she returned the money that a seller dropped on the street and helped a kid that was being bullied. These are circumstances that truly demonstrate what a Batang Matibay is.

Bear Brand has always remained committed to building generations of Batang Matibay. That’s why it remains as moms’ trusted partner in raising children who have the strength of mind, body, and will with the essential Tibay nutrition with Tibay-Resistensya and Tibay Katawan Nutrients that every glass of BEAR BRAND provides.

Follow the story about the importance of lifelong learning in building a Batang Matibay. Watch BEAR BRAND’s newest TV commercial in this link.

Allianz PNB Life ranked 3rd among life insurance companies based on latest PH Insurance Commission statistics

Thursday, November 10, 2022

Allianz PNB Life recently ranked third in terms of Gross Written Premium (GWP) and New Business Annualized Premium Equivalent (NBAPE) in the Philippine Insurance Commission’s (IC) latest performance report for the first and second quarter of 2022.

Allianz PNB Life has performed consistently year on year. In 2021, it ranked fourth under the same categories, while in 2020, the company was listed as 7th in GWP and 8th in NBAPE.

“Insurance penetration is only at 2% in the Philippines and remains one of the lowest in Asia. There is heightened awareness for the importance of insurance however and we continue to enhance our efforts to become the trusted insurance partner of Filipinos,” said Allianz PNB Life President and CEO, Alexander Grenz. “We are grateful to our customers and partners for choosing us every day and propelling our organization to the Top 3 position in both GWP and NBAPE especially considering how we were 10th and 11th respectively when I assumed the role of CEO in 2019.”

This announcement follows the release of the Allianz Global Wealth Report 2022, where data on the asset and debt situation of households in almost 60 countries can be found, including the Philippines. In the report, the Philippines was notable for its 10.4% increase in financial assets growth driven by pension and life insurance assets, the latter of which showed a growth of up to 13.0%.

Despite entering the market only in 2016, Allianz PNB Life has achieved remarkable performance among more established competitors. “This achievement is ultimately attributed to our hardworking and dedicated Allianz PNB Life employees and expert financial advisors aptly referred to as Life Changers,” Grenz noted. “Their strong commitment to our purpose of securing the future of Filipinos is the reason why we have significant strides in terms of over-all market ranking.”

Since 2019, Allianz has been recognized as the number one insurance brand in the world. As a leading insurance provider, Allianz PNB Life’s products and services are designed to meet the lifetime financial planning, wealth accumulation, and well-being aspirations of Filipinos.
