Make mealtimes veggie-licious!

Building our kids' health through nutrition is crucial as they go back to school.

Preparing vegetable meals at home is a great way to keep children strong and healthy. This is especially important as the flu season is also upon us. Vegetables are good sources of potassium, dietary fiber, folate, vitamin A, and vitamin C, and many others.

Aside from its health benefits, with rising prices of pork and chicken, vegetables are also budget friendly. As homemakers face the day-to-day challenge of budgeting while striving to prepare nutritious and delicious dishes, these easy-to-prepare and veggie-licious recipes come in handy.

“In our own way, we aim to provide solutions and equip homemakers with knowledge on preparing affordable, nutritious and delicious meals for the family by sharing thoughtful recipes that take health and budget into consideration,” shares Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC Group) General Manager Corporate Planning and Public Relations Roann Co.

To make it more appealing to kids, these easy-to-prepare vegetable recipes are made tastier with Tasty Boy All Purpose Breading Mix that only costs PHP 11.00 SRP.

Kalabasa Crisps

French fries and potato chips have always been a kiddie favorite. Now, homecooks can recreate them with a healthy twist through Kalabasa Crisps. It is made with only 3 ingredients: sliced kalabasa, cooking oil, and Tasty Boy Breading Mix. Not only is this a delicious snack that kids can munch on while doing their homework, kalabasa or squash is also a good source of Beta-Carotene that supports better eye health. Full recipe here.

Veggie Okoy Bites

A new recipe idea to entice kids to eat is by making it fun and colorful. Serving Veggie Okoy Bites filled with yellow potatoes, orange carrots, and green beans is a good way to make kids excited for healthy food. These various colors also represent the multiple nutrients that the kids can get as this dish is rich in carbohydrates and vitamins A, C, and fiber. Check the recipe here.

Tokwa Crisps

Another food that children don’t get tired of is nuggets. This is why having a healthier alternative through Tokwa Crisps is a great addition to every homecook’s recipe book. Preparing it is quick and easy too! It can be done in less than 20 minutes and consists of 3 ingredients only: tokwa, cooking oil, and Tasty Boy Breading Mix. Aside from the convenience and delicious taste, tokwa is also rich in calcium which can help kids have stronger teeth and bones. See recipe here.

APC Group’s brand promise of Eat Well, Live Well provides Filipinos with easy and affordable ways to serve healthy meals especially to their kids. "We believe that we can change how kids see vegetables in simple and delicious ways. We hope that through our recipes, we can help parents get their children to eat well and live well especially during these trying times," said Roann Co.

World Vision Philippines relaunches women empowerment campaign #GirlsCan

Now in its third year, World Vision is once again launching #GirlsCan to support and help vulnerable girls achieve their dreams and potential. Aside from providing long-term and sustainable solutions for life transformation, the campaign aims to promote the significance of empowering girls and women which are key components of World Vision programs and advocacies, especially in the Philippines.

Various issues surround girls in the country, and violence against children remains one of the major concerns. In fact, the Department of Justice reported an increase of 264% cases of online sexual exploitation in 2020.

“Though this is a huge increase, we know it's only the tip of the iceberg. Most cases go undetected, unreported, and unresponded. Online sexual exploitation of children or OSEC is a hidden, layered and complex crime that robs Filipina girls of their childhood,” says Jezreel Hannah Domingo, World Vision Philippines Child Protection Manager.

“Girls should be empowered through positive life skills and asset building for them to know their rights and build their personal safety. When empowered, they learn to speak up, seek help and become positive instruments of change for younger girls,” Domingo added.

She also stressed the importance of strengthening the families to nurture and protect their children and reinforcing community-based mechanisms for identifying and protecting child victims of OSEC through stronger detection and investigation procedures.

Meanwhile, in education, over 2 million girls drop out of school while more adolescent girls get pregnant and give birth every day. While poverty remains the leading cause of these alarming problems, there are always ways to empower girls to break free.

With #GirlsCan, girls are allowed to be empowered through various World Vision programs that address the needs of girls and women like the Savings Groups and Livelihood programs for Women entrepreneurs such as the Sustaining Women’s Economic Empowerment Thrust (SWEET project), Project ACE that combats exploitation of children, Maternal and Child Health Programs, Mother-Baby Friendly Philippines Project and the Menstrual Hygiene Campaign.

Over the years, the campaign has successfully supported thousands of young girls. It aims to support 1000 more this year, celebrating the International Day of the Girl on October 11.

Bear Brand Turnsover 5K Tibay Chairs for Pinoy Students Nationwide

Wednesday, August 17, 2022

With the country gearing up for the return of face-to-face classes after two years of the virtual and hybrid setup, BEAR BRAND doubles down on its commitment to building generations of Batang Matibay by strengthening its support for children’s education. Through the brand’s Tibayanihan Project, a total of 5,000 Tibay Chairs made out of upcycled BEAR BRAND packs will be turned over to schools in 12 cities nationwide this 2022.

As a result of the longstanding 6 year partnership of BEAR BRAND with the Department of Education (DepEd), the brand joined the national kickoff of the Brigada Eskwela program in Imus Pilot Elementary School where the Tibay Chairs were turned over. Brigada Eskwela, which aims to prepare for the return of Filipino children to school, this year launched with a theme of Tugon sa Hamon ng Ligtas na Balik-Aral. The first batch of 1,500 Tibay Chairs to be turned over as part of the Brigada Eskwela kick off will be distributed in public schools in CALABARZON, Benguet, and Baguio.

Since the start of the Tibay Chairs program of BEAR BRAND began in 2016, DepEd has received and distributed over 12,000 benches and armchairs to 131 public schools.

“Knowing that having sufficient equipment is one of the key factors in an environment conducive to learning, the brand saw an opportunity to support school children with tibay chairs for a better learning experience. Sharing this goal with DepEd, we were able to identify and extend help to these locations. Through the Tibay Chairs, we not only aim to help students excel, but also, by producing these chairs through upcycled plastic sachets, we contribute to Nestle’s global commitment of achieving net zero emissions by 2050,” shared Russell Lipchin, BEO Dairy Health and Nutrition Solutions.

Even everyday citizens can take part in helping enrich the lives of Filipino students. By donating plastic waste to the Tibayanihan Project, BEAR BRAND commits to upcycling the waste and producing more TIbay Chairs that can be used by students all over the country. To donate plastic waste, check out the hashtag #PlasticDropPH and search for the nearest collection point through this link.

National mWellness Day brings together volunteer doctors and health practitioners to provide free online consultation to Filipinos from all parts of the country via the mWell PH app on August 27-28.

Now on its second year, National mWellness Day is even bigger, bringing together more doctors from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Filipinos nationwide can consult from a range of doctors on the mWell app where they can receive free quality health consultation from general practitioners, specialists, and mental health experts.

This advocacy initiative is part of MPIC’s sustainability mission to bring healthcare closer to more Filipinos nationwide. Wherever you are in the country, the National mWellness Day online medical mission is just a few taps away on your mobile gadgets. Just download the mWell PH app and register, choose from the roster of hundreds of volunteer primary care and specialized doctors, and avail of the free consultation. Simple and accessible!

The annual event, which began in September 2021, is built on compassion that cures. Using digital technology through the mWell PH app, access to healthcare is made more convenient, just like any on-ground face-to-face medical mission but from the comfort and security of your home. Health concerns can be addressed from any location giving anyone timely medical advice from experts.

This year, as Filipinos rebuild their lives in the new normal, primary care, specialized doctors and mental health experts will be a few taps away, ready to provide much-needed medical advice. Booking fees and doctor fees will be waived on August 27-28.

On top of the free consultation, the first one hundred patients will receive vitamin vouchers from MedExpress and Watsons, with free shipping. They will also be given free laboratory exams including x-ray and complete blood count, and emergency outpatient coverage valid for one year.

Ms. Chaye Cabal-Revilla, Chief Finance, Risk and Sustainability Officer of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation said that this advocacy shows mWell’s compassion in action, “Healthcare is a basic right. Our advocacy of bringing healthcare closer to more Filipinos is part of our sustainability anchor. We are truly passionate about making a difference in the lives of our countrymen through our responsive, highly convenient platform.”

National mWellness Day is in support of the MVP Group’s Gabay Kalusugan advocacy focusing on quality and affordable healthcare. MPIC President, Chairman and CEO, Manny V. Pangilinan says, “Filipinos now have better access to healthcare through mWell’s integrated digital healthcare ecosystem with a wide and sustainable network of medical experts and services.”

Along with hundreds of volunteer doctors nationwide, National mWellness Day is supported by top insurance companies—PhilCare and Generali, pharmacy partners MedExpress and Watsons, mental health experts from Mind Nation, doctors from Makati Medical Center Foundation and Makati Medical Center Wellness Center. MPIC Foundation is also in full support of the advocacy. mWell’s diverse partnerships give better access to healthcare for all as a fully integrated healthcare platform.

Doctors and clinics all over the country are welcome to be part of the National mWellness Day to reach more patients nationwide and provide them with accessible, responsive, and convenient medical care. It takes less than an hour to sign up via www.mwell.com.ph. Only a PRC ID is required.

By becoming an mWell partner doctor even after the event day, doctors can widen their patient base and consult at their convenience. For regular consultations, doctors can charge their own professional fee without any deductions. They can also enjoy an exclusive high-speed internet plan from PLDT Home Fibr: 100mbps for only P1499.
